What do you think of the name Rory for a boy?

I quite like it. Any particular connotations or thoughts on it I might have missed?

Thanks

Good strong Scottish name!
Nothing wrong with it at all.

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2020 10:25

Lovely Irish name Wink

Saucery · 12/11/2020 10:30

It’s lovely. I know a super little Rory.

MikeUniformMike · 12/11/2020 10:39

Fine, but avoid if Wowy or Vovy are a possibility.
Lots of R names are currently popular, so he'll be with lots of Romans, Reubens, Rowans, etc.

newnamesameold · 12/11/2020 10:50

I love it.

CovidAnni · 12/11/2020 10:51

Love it! @but can’t say it Blush

FluffyEggsontoast · 12/11/2020 10:54

I do like it
Word of warning: it's much more popular than it used to be and a lot of Ro names in top 100 that jump further up charts each year

ellenpartridge · 12/11/2020 10:57

Thanks all. Good to have a mainly positive response but surprised to see how far it's jumped up the charts.

Yes it might well be much more popular than you're expecting @ellenpartridge it jumps every year too so hasn't peaked yet
Just depends what you want though. I'd avoid the entirety of the top 100 if popularity a concern
It's a nice name though
Rufus for example is less used and well outside top 100, but you might not like that name

ellenpartridge · 12/11/2020 11:33

I don't particularly mind popularity if a name is consistently high. Top 100 isn't an issue for me at all but I'm less keen on something which has a sharp ascent as I think those names could later seem more faddy.

I love Rory. And Gallagher Grin - my first thought is beautiful guitar riffs.

Chickenwing · 12/11/2020 12:24

Love it. Also love Ruari.

DepuisToujours · 12/11/2020 12:34

Love it! Would be high on my list if we ever had another boy.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 12/11/2020 12:39

I absolutely love it.

I just feel like I can never say it properly.n

FluffyEggsontoast · 12/11/2020 13:05

@ellenpartridge well Rory is having a fairly large ascent in popularity but it's a pretty traditional name that was still in the top one hundred names 20 years ago so it doesn't feed as fad-y as a name like Roman for example thats shot up hundreds and hundreds of places to be in the top 100 for the first time in history over the past few years

I know 2, one in his 20s the other is 3. Great name.

Juanbablo · 12/11/2020 13:39

I have a 6 year old Rory so I am biased. Still love the name although he is usually called by his middle name or his nickname.

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 12/11/2020 13:55

I have one, it comes up quite often on mumsnet, but we know of no others in real life or at school. Only times we’ve heard it out and about is in posher (England) towns (and mumsnet has quite a large middle class population), whilst not being a posh name itself. In fact I see it as classless and timeless and ageless.

Cute name but has a roar to it!

Ourbedislisting · 12/11/2020 19:07

I’ve got a Rory, great name.

I liked it because it’s a nod to our Irish grandparents and it’s a strong sounding name (means red king)

He’s the only one in our school, there was one other at nursery in an earlier year so not over used.

We call him Rory bear quite a lot. He’s fabulous

Love it 😍
