Second one.

GaryTheDemon · 11/11/2020 22:14

I think this is a dialect thing, not something you can choose.

ivykaty44 · 11/11/2020 22:16

Eyevan

Palavah · 11/11/2020 22:18

Ifan

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 11/11/2020 22:19

Eye-van. I've never heard it pronounced any other way.

Honeyroar · 11/11/2020 22:19

Eye van

AlexaShutUp · 11/11/2020 22:20

Second one. I prefer the Eastern European pronunciation.

Chilldonaldchill · 11/11/2020 22:51

If I knew the person was British I'd pronounce it the first way.
If I thought they were Eastern European I'd pronounce the second way.
I'm not sure I have a preference particularly. I was a huge Lendl fan but my natural pronunciation would still be EYE-van I think.

AuntieStella · 11/11/2020 23:01

ih-van if from mainland/Eastern Europe/Russia

eye-van if British

Think I prefer the Russian

Icanflyhigh · 11/11/2020 23:03

Again?? There was a thread on this last week!
Eyevan is the British way of saying it Ihvan is Russian.

If you don't want your child to be called Eyevan, pick another name

TheNanny23 · 11/11/2020 23:55

They will be EYE-van in the UK.

I knew someone called Ivan- always referred to as Ivan the Terrible which was a bit unfortunate for him.

saraclara · 11/11/2020 23:57

Even if you call him ih-VAHN he's be called eye-van by everyone outside the family.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/11/2020 13:26

It will be Eye- van is the UK unfortunately, even though I do prefer the softer European pronunciation.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/11/2020 13:30

You could use Evan instead? "Eh -van" has a similar softer sound to ih - van (Ivan).

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/11/2020 13:34

I know an i-VAN (lowercase i not uppercase EYE) he's Italian.

Mousepad20 · 12/11/2020 17:57

I would default to EYE-van (because I'm English and I've known two), but would be perfectly prepared to be corrected. I'm not sure I 'prefer' one or the other.
