Love James, Marcus and Edward from your list.

Bunnybigears · 01/11/2020 16:02

Edward

Firebird83 · 01/11/2020 20:08

Thomas

Lobsterquadrille2 · 01/11/2020 20:10

Isaac. Love it - it's supposed to be very popular but I only know one.

Happenchance · 01/11/2020 21:01

I like Isaac, Henry and James, though I wouldn’t shorten Isaac to Zac.

I don’t like the name Marcus. It’s too similar to the word mucus for my liking.

Macblondie · 01/11/2020 22:56

James, Charlie and Thomas are my favourites from your list. They are on my list too!

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 23:08

I don't like Isaac or Alfie.

Charlie is OK, with Charles on the BC.

Love the rest, James is my favourite.

Marcus would be a great choice, a nice name and unusual these days.

Flushi · 01/11/2020 23:11

I really like James, Edward and Thomas

BackforGood · 01/11/2020 23:18

Unusually on MN - I like all those names Grin

I think it is easier to have the same initial for your shortened name as your full name, so if you plan to call him Zac, I'd go with one of the longer names that begin with Z

Around here, Alfie and Charlie have been very popular over the last 3 or 4 years, so I'd probably choose one of the others on that basis if wanting to narrow down the list

Personally I'd be choosing from Marcus or Thomas, but do like all of them. Smile

I have recently developed a love for Edward. I like the full name and all of the nicknames (that I know!). I love Isaac too. I don't like Alfie or Charlie as I feel like 70% of the boys under 10 that I know are called those names. I also don't like Marcus. Thomas is sweet and I also like James and I think Jimmy is such a cute nickname.

I would choose Edward James. Or Isaac James. Or James Edward.

Lou25mumof1 · 02/11/2020 17:29

Thanks everyone for your comments!

@DramaAlpaca yes I meant to say it would be Charles nn Charlie!

I also should have said that any name other than James (obviously!) would have James as the middle name.

All are very nice traditional names that suit any age and most have several nickname choices if the child wants.

But of your choices I'd stick with James, Thomas, Edward, Charles or maybe Henry (the first four have stayed in the Top 100 boys names for at least the last 100 years and so are unlikely to ever date).

Alfred (Alfie), Isaac and Marcus are slightly less classic and more likely to go in and out of fashion (Alfie is particularly trendy at the moment).

My personal faves (with less common nickname choices!) are James (nn Jem) and Edward (nn Bear or Iolo).

Woui · 02/11/2020 19:47

Edward James ! Love it

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/11/2020 19:02

Love Marcus, it's such a handsome, underused name

Tillygetsit · 03/11/2020 23:10

Marcus really stood out as unusual but familiar. I think it's very handsome.

alexdgr8 · 03/11/2020 23:13

any of those are good, but have Charles and Alfred instead of babyish endings.

christmasclove · 08/11/2020 15:31

Thomas. Tom is fab 🙂

YoniAndGuy · 09/11/2020 10:41

Gosh I hate Marcus sorry. Just not a nice sound.

I would go for Thomas, Tom is so friendly and universal.

vegiburger · 09/11/2020 14:20

Edward, James, Thomas or Henry

LittleTiger007 · 09/11/2020 15:55

I love Isaac from your list. Also James, Alfie and Charlie. We have James pencilled in for a middle name.
