Sage/Saige & middle names?!

Me & DH really love the name Sage, but I'm thinking about using the spelling Saige to draw it away from everyone thinking about the herb, I'm concerned everyone's going to say "you can't call her that it's a herb".

But anyway our last name rhymes with Mallone so that's what il use to put the name together.

Saige Indigo Mallone
Saige Tabitha Mallone
Saige Ellorie Mallone.

These are the only ones I can think of.
The names we have after Saige are Matilda & Rue.

My first thought would be its misspelt.

If you like Sage use Sage.

TeenPlusTwenties · 31/10/2020 12:21

My immediate thought was the Sage Committee giving scientific advice re Covid.
I didn't know Sage was a name, never come across it myself before.

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/10/2020 12:22

I don't like the spelling Saige.

Sage is better, doesn't matter the spelling it is the word for that herb and spelling it differently is kinda pointless!

Indigo is awful, Ellorie is maximum twee. Tabitha is ok.

Wolfiefan · 31/10/2020 12:23

Don’t misspell a herb and give it to your child as a name! Confused

Ninkanink · 31/10/2020 12:23

God please don’t make up a horrid new spelling for it...

If you like Sage use Sage. 🙂

I think Sage Indigo is the best pairing from your choices, but it does sound a bit like you just went to the paint section and picked some paint colours to go together.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 31/10/2020 12:24

If you spell it Saige everyone will spell it wrong. She’ll go through life correcting everyone, getting cards in the wrong spelling and missing emails because of it!

From personal experience - please, please don’t do that to your child.

PeskyRooks · 31/10/2020 12:34

I don't like Saige sorry and I usually like unusual names. What about Paige? Sage is out too it's the covid experts.
Tabitha and Matilda are my favourites. Rue means regret.

Ninkanink · 31/10/2020 12:58

Oh I didn’t even think of SAGE - but I’m not paying any attention to that whole circus.

Probably not the best choice during the pandemic, tbf.

BreastedBOObilyToTheScares · 31/10/2020 13:04

Sage is fine - it's a name. I probably wouldn't use it during the pandemic, but eventually the association with SAGE will end and it will still be her name.

Saige is just an incorrect spelling and she'll spend her life introducing herself as 'Saige but with an 'I' after the a'. As someone with an unusual spelling, it's a pain in the backside and not something I thank my parents for at all. Please don't do that to your child.

missmouse101 · 31/10/2020 13:12

I like Sage, but do spell it normally. Tabitha is a lovely middle name. I'd say choose an obviously female middle name, as Sage could be either male or female.

riotlady · 31/10/2020 14:02

Sage is lovely, don’t mess with the spelling!

I like Sage Indigo the best of your options.

Ulpo · 31/10/2020 14:03

Sylvester Stallone has a Sage. That rhymes with yours!

Definitely don't do Saige. That looks weird.

TabithaMeow · 31/10/2020 14:04

I LOVE Sage and think it sounds perfect with Tabitha as something more traditional and feminine as a middle name will go nicely. Also like Sage Elizabeth and Sage Genevieve.

EnidMatilda · 31/10/2020 14:08

Like Sage. Don't change spelling. I think herb is a nice connotation. It's no different to Lavender or Rosemary really and you wouldn't change those spellings. Would not give SAGE the scientific committee and second thought. I like Sage Indigo best. Sage Manila also nice. Sage Emily, Sage Charlotte.

Ladderofyears · 31/10/2020 16:17

Sage (very definitely spelt like that) Tabitha.

Flappingflamingo · 31/10/2020 20:23

Matilda sage or tabitha sage. I really really dislike indigo and other variations so obviously wouldn't use it but definitely not with a name like sage.
Oh and if your set on sage, I would spell it normally

user1493494961 · 31/10/2020 20:38

Matilda is lovely, Tabitha is nice. Sage is a herb but as pp, my first thought was the Sage Committee.

BayandBlonde · 31/10/2020 20:41

Just reminds me of blessing a house and banishing bad energy Confused not really a child's name

triceratops12 · 31/10/2020 20:41

Makes me think of covid

roastedsaltedpeanut · 31/10/2020 20:45

My immediate thought was the Sage Committee giving scientific advice re Covid

This

Otherwise it’s a lovely name. I like all herb/plant names: rosemary, sage, holly, heather. Quite serene and beautiful

MikeUniformMike · 31/10/2020 20:46

Saige is awful. Sage is better.

Sage Indigo - two plants, looks like a green fabric dye.
Sage Tabitha - ok
Sage Ellery - ok

Note the spellings

elfran · 31/10/2020 20:46

Sage is fine (though I personally only know of dogs called this). Agree with others, use the proper spelling - once people know her and attach it to your daughter, nobody will think of the herb (or Covid).

I like a more traditional middle name with it, so Sage Tabitha or Sage Matilda. Sage Indigo is way too modern/throwaway/colour-based.

Merename · 31/10/2020 20:46

Covid scientists for me too I’m afraid.

TheMShip · 31/10/2020 20:55

Sage Independent Grin

Haffdonga · 31/10/2020 20:55

Sage any other year except this would be fine.

But do you really want a lifelong reminder of the daily death statistics?

(Wouldn't it be the equivalent calling a child Blitz during the WW2? It can never not be connected to the times it's in?)
