Middle name helps!

I’m pregnant with my first baby and DH and I have just been discussing names if it’s a girl.

We both like Ayla but not sure on a middle name. Previously liked Rae but not sure if Ayla Rae sounds like too much of a mouthful!

Ideally something with one syllable?

I think Ayla Rae is really nice and works well

diddlediddle · 30/10/2020 21:30

No to Rae. It's chavvy, sorry. There are a million kids called Maisie-Rae, Evie-Mae, etc. This gets said on every middle name thread ever.

Also don't choose Rose, Grace or May unless you want your child to match every other girl born in the last 10 years.

With Ayla, I would choose a more classic and unusual middle name, or a family name. Ayla is pleasant but will merge into a sea of Ayla, Isla, Myla, Ada, Eva, etc so might want something more distinctive in the middle.

Ayla is lovely. I agree Rae is very popular so not sure id use it. I love Jean for a middle name (family connection) but I think Ayla Jean sounds lovely

Thanks everyone Smile

I don’t know many people with children so have no idea what’s popular, so thank you for telling me about Rae!!

I do love Jean, it’s also my DH’s aunt’s name who passed away some years ago so I imagine he’d really love it too.

The thing is, you never actually say your child’s middle name so can spend ages thinking of a great name that never gets said apart from when you announce the name. So just choose something you like or honour a friend or family member.

Elwynne · 31/10/2020 07:56

Hi @GooseWhiskers me and my partner spent ages deliberating the middle name... ages! And you know what, we have used it exactly zero times since it went on her birth certificate, so if you like Rae, go for it. Ayla Rae has a lovely flow. Congratulations btw!

Pixilicious · 31/10/2020 08:00

What @Magicbabywaves and @Elwynne said.

Enko · 31/10/2020 08:04

I love Allah Jean and if it is a family name even better imo

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/10/2020 11:39

Ayla Rae is fine. Here's some other ideas, though.
Ayla Jo
Ayla Jane
Ayla Grace
Ayla Beth
Ayla Belle.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 31/10/2020 11:40

What surname initial do you have op?
Ayla Rae Stevens for example would be ARS... Blush

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 31/10/2020 13:31

Ayla Faye?

GooseWhiskers · 31/10/2020 23:52

Surname begins with C!

Honestly you rarely say someone's middle name just pick whatever you like, word to the wide though pick a name they can use if they don't like their first name or perhaps want a gender neutral name, upto you though

MerchantOfVenom · 01/11/2020 03:45

I think middle names are either a time to be a bit creative and ‘out there’, or a perfect opportunity to honour a loved on.

Seriously - what even is the point of a banal, snooze-fest filler name like Rose, May, Grace, Rae, etc (obviously, if it is after a loved one, that’s a different matter)?

MercyBodle · 01/11/2020 03:53

I think Ayla Jean sounds better than Ayla Rae, but Rae is fine and usable if that's your favourite.
I like these middles:
Ayla Beth
Ayla Jane
Ayla June
Ayla Faith
Ayla Jo
Ayla Fleur
Ayla Grace
Ayla Kate
