Hey ladies I'd be grateful for some help I've looked at so many names and can't seem to find anything that really stands out.

So far for a boy my OH and I like
Toby
Stanley
Dexter

And for a girl we like Violet but I really don't like it shortened to Vi which I'm sure would happen

So basically just looking for other similar ideas that might become front runners

Thank you DaffodilSmile

I like Toby. Stanley is OK but I prefer some of the other old fashioned names. Dexter is too surnamey IMO.

Violet is lovely and she could always become a Lettie rather than a Vi.

Hope these are the sort of names you are looking for.

Toby and Stanley are nicer than Dexter, which is surnamey and sounds very harsh to my ears. Toby does sound a bit drippy to me but that's just personal taste.

What about Joel, Robin/Tobin?

I'm afraid I really don't like Violet because I just see Violent.

Perhaps Iris and Ivy are similar but nicer? There are loads of beautiful flower names to be honest.

Or how about Astrid, Lena, Olive?

theorangesisters · 30/10/2020 18:54

I'm Violet and I occasionally get called Vi by someone that doesn't know me very well but my nickname has always been Vee.

I know a 4yo violet who is always just called violet. Think it is a lovely name - doesn’t need shortening.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 30/10/2020 21:31

Stanley make tools and Dexter is a hideous TV show.
Toby is getting a bit popular imo.

Greyhoundgirly · 31/10/2020 14:35

Dexter and Daphne! Flowers

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 12/11/2020 23:26

Thanks everyone I do like Iris as well

I prefer shorter names my OH is being about as helpful as a chocolate teapot 😂 so not getting anywhere fast

Toby (Tobias) is nice, as is Iris. I'm not keen on Violet (like pp I see Violent) but Viola is lovely.

It seems like you like a vintage style so: Ada, Dahlia, Evelyn, Florence/Flora, Sybil, Sylvie/Sylvia, Arthur, Wilfred, Frederick, Edgar/Edmund, Leon(ard), Ray(mond) all sprang to mind (sorry for any repeats).

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 13/11/2020 06:58

@IamnotwhouthinkIam thank you I really like Evelyn

I also love Florence and Arthur but my OH does not unfortunately
