Lilith is awesome. Ottilie is wishy washy to me. The rest I've no real opinion on.

Hightide1 · 29/10/2020 10:24

Lilith or Iris, I find the others unnecessarily frilly (although I quite like Seffy)

WatchOutTheSkyIsFalling · 29/10/2020 10:26

Sapphira (though prefer Sapphire), Iris or Ivy. Like all of them, but I think may be put off Ivy since Beyonce's daughter...

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 29/10/2020 10:29

Seraphina (known as Seffy) - like this and was in my shortlist but I feel there’s something not quite right for me, I think it’s because I’d be worried when you say the whole name out, people would hear ‘Sarah- feena’ and they’d just get called Sarah.

Sapphira (same as above) - ooh I like this and will now add to my name list. Also like the nn ‘Fifi’

Ivy - meh, just think of cartoon poison Ivy
Iris - it’s pretty
Ottilie - love!
Lilith - bit wishy washy?

Triskelline · 29/10/2020 10:34

People on Mn will tell you about Lilith being the name of a mythic baby-eating demon without actually thinking about why the myth needs to punish an independent-minded woman by turning her into a monster.

My only concern with Lilith is its similarity to the wishy-washy and omnipresent Lily.

Ivy or Seraphina out of your others. I always think Ottillie sounds weird wobbly, Iris is pretty bland, and I don't like Sapphira at all -- I would class it with Topaz and the like as a pole-dancer stage name.

emmathedilemma · 29/10/2020 10:52

I like Ivy and could get used to Iris.
I really don't like Seraphina and Sapphira (surely that would be Saffy not Seffy?).
Lilith just sounds like someone with a lisp and Ottilie i guess is ok, nn Tilly?

BarbiesBitch · 29/10/2020 10:52

Lilith!

Enko · 29/10/2020 10:53

Seraphina or Lillith

user1493494961 · 29/10/2020 11:04

Ivy is nice, Iris is OK, as is Ottilie as probably shortened to Tilly. Agree with pp, Lilith sounds like someone with a lisp. Seraphina and Sapphira are too frilly.

GoingBackTo505 · 29/10/2020 11:17

I love Iris and Ottilie. Can't stand Lilith. It's like the name version of a lisp and I don't think it has a very nice meaning of that bothers you.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/10/2020 11:51

Seraphina and Sapphira are awful, sorry I also agree with PP wouldn't a nn for Sapphira be Saffy rather than the Saffy. I must say though. I do quite like Saffy.
Ottillie is like Natalie gone hideously wrong.
Lilith. What's wrong with Lily.
Ivy. I don't like it but I can see why its popular
Iris. I love this

MercyBodle · 29/10/2020 12:56

I love Iris, and I like Ivy and Lilith. Seraphina and Sapphira are nice enough (love Seffy), but a bit frilly for my tastes.

I really dislike Ottile - I just hear otter and utterly.

Whatsyourflava · 29/10/2020 13:29

These are my favourites from your list. Really love all 3

Ivy
Iris
Ottilie

duckoutofwater · 29/10/2020 13:41

Iris is our choice for DD due in Jan

bridgetreilly · 29/10/2020 14:10

Seraphina, though I think I prefer it spelled Serafina.

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2020 14:43

A big no to Lilith, it has some unpleasant literary associations (I can't remember what) and it isn't a pleasant sound anyway.

I adore Seraphina even though it's frilly. It's the sort of name I love but would never use.

I'd choose Iris or Ivy.

Ladderofyears · 29/10/2020 22:30

Seraphina (known as Seffy) - gorgeous
Sapphira (same as above) - way too frilly
Ivy - ok. Becoming v popular
Iris - I love this.
Ottilie - it's ok.
Lilith - I know this name as "the bringer of night demons" so that puts me off completely

I would go for Seraphina (I would actually choose Seraphine myself) or Iris.

Ghosts2020 · 30/10/2020 03:41

Seraphina (known as Seffy)don't mind
Sapphira (same as above)no
Ivy like but too popular
Iris no sure
Ottilie no
Lilith no unless she's going to be known solely as lily and preferably long name Lillian, please don't have her bullied

danascully96 · 30/10/2020 04:11

Seraphina is firmly middle name territory imo it does harken back to the Victorian era where I imagine an ethereal woman attracting great fascination from those around her, but it sounds a bit much for a first name

Sapphira - that’s a no from me

Ivy - don’t like... itchy-sounding

Iris - I love Iris Dement! And Iris is a nice enough name, but someone once told me (back when I liked the name myself) that they’ll call her “Iris the Virus,” so I’ve never considered it since. I haven’t seen that come up, though, and you can twist any name into something bad. I’ll rate this name as OK :)

Ottilie - not my cup of tea and would strongly discourage you from using this

Lilith - I’ve seen this suggested on naming boards, but the association, whether justified or not, is too strong and Lilith has yet to be reclaimed as a feminist figure in popular culture, so I would dissuade you from using this

Of your list, Iris is the best.

I’ll suggest:

Alice Seraphina
Laura Seraphina
Eve Seraphina
Isabel Seraphina

Best of luck! :)

Seraphina (known as Seffy) - LOVE this because of the meaning 'fiery ones' and I love nickname Sephy. I don't know if I would be confident to use it personally though because of the frilliness of the full name, but I would probably be envious if I came across someone who was brave enough to use it as it is so lovely!
Sapphira (same as above) - I like the sound of this, but for me it is ruined as I immediately think of Sapphira the famous biblical liar who dropped dead along with her lying husband. I also feel that her name won't be shortened to Sephy but to Saphy as this is the natural shortening, so depends if you like Saphy?
Ivy - Very pretty but getting very popular - I know 3 baby Ivys - so depends is this would bother you.
Iris - I love Iris! It is beautiful and classy but I can imagine it suiting any type of person (loud or quiet, fiesty or chilled out, arty or sporty, etc) as opposed to Seraphina or Sapphira which I feel would not suit some people.
Ottilie - I want to like this but there is something about it that I don't like. It feels very 'of the moment' and trendy and almost made up, despite being an old name. Nicknames Ottie and Tilly don't appeal to me either.
Lilith - I liked the idea of Lilith as a fiesty feminist figure until I read more about the story of Lilith and that, as well as being a fiesty feminist figure, she was also a demon said to kidnap and eat babies... So not the nicest connection after all! GrinAnd will possibly (probably?) just end up as Lily.

I would chose Iris, or Seraphina if I was brave enough. More likely I would chose Iris Seraphina as I am a coward and would play it safe and Iris is the safer choice, although Seraphina is my favourite!
