Names that " got away"

Another thread on here today made me wonder about this.

Names you loved your partner didn't or names that you were sure you would use your baby just did not look like.

For me

I love Alanah dh was a firm no
We were sure of our top 5 Elizabeth would be the main one.. dd1 did not look like an Elizabeth.

DD2 we got put off Millicent due to Millenia fever and I do somewhat regret that (love her actual name) as Millenia is not a big thing anymore.

DS he got the only boys name dh and I have ever agreed on Grin However his " shadow name" of Ilonna I still love and would have liked to use for a dd.

DD3 Seraphina I love it dh loves it dd3 did not look like a Seraphina.

For DH I know he " let" go of Maxim/Maximillian as I was not keen. He wanted Daphne for dd2 but I was a no way as DD1 is Phoebe and at the time Friends and Frasier were so popular and I felt people would feel we only could name after sitcoms (our Phoebe is after JD Salingers "The Catcher in the Rye")

Anyone else?

My partner is Muslim and we agreed on Islamic names, im happy with our choices and love our kids names but if I had full choice I always loved River for a boy. It just sounds lovely and puts nice imagery in my head. Our girl name we never got to use was Safia. For dd1 from a different relationship I chose her name Ava. I came across Avianna afterwards though and did have a wobble. Its not to everyone's taste but I think it sounds so lovely!

Lydia.

I won't have another child but I really wanted to use it.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 28/10/2020 02:10

@CoffeeInAnIV I care to say the same. I loved Lydia but my husband just didn't. He didn't hate it but it wasn't in his top 10. We have 3 girls and I love all of their names, but i would have loved to use Lydia for one of them.

The other I liked and he didn't was Delilah.

kleew1 · 28/10/2020 02:13

Our boys name was Miles but we had a dd. Think my dad was happy as he hates the name Miles Grin

GeorgiaGirl52 · 28/10/2020 02:17

If DS had been DD3 she would have been Enola.

Llamapolice · 28/10/2020 02:41

Harriet, always loved it but it happened that when my DD was born my manager was a Harriet! I just thought it would be too weird.

micc · 28/10/2020 04:22

With my daughter, she was very nearly Maria or Anya. Love those names still, we thought about them for this baby. But It still felt like they were her back up names and I wanted a fresh start. Plus we went with a pretty 'out there' name with my daughter so I'm a lot braver this time round!

Ritascornershop · 28/10/2020 05:10

So many girls names my (now) exhusband thought were “too weird”; Saskia, Cosima, Odette, Oonagh, Jemima. For a boy I liked Sam, Josiah, Jonas, Mordechai ... his choices were more top 20, not eternal
classics, more Emily Oliver type names. Nice but didn’t grab me. So the ones we chose were compromises.

PolarnOPirate · 28/10/2020 11:42

I think Joel is the most perfect name. It’s far too similar to our eldest DS’s, and I didn’t think of it when it came to naming him! So we shall never get to use it 😢 definitely a middle name if we ever have a third son!

PolarnOPirate · 28/10/2020 11:43

Also our girl name was always Adelaide/Adeline. I have 2 boys and my new niece is called Ada. So if we ever have a girl thats a no too 😄

Pantheon · 28/10/2020 11:46

We'd like another child but I'm not sure I'll win dh round to some of the names I like - Evelyn, Raphael, Nina... We'll see!

everyonesmama · 28/10/2020 11:51

Jake got away for tragic reasons.
Wanted Tuesday - over ruled, wanted Heaven - over ruled!

Cattenberg · 28/10/2020 11:58

DD might have been a Sylvia. I think it’s a beautiful name that’s ready to come round again.

Unfortunately, there was a real life Sylvia who behaved appallingly to a member of my family. It would have really upset my relative if I’d chosen that name, so I dropped it.

LizzieBananas · 28/10/2020 12:10

Not going to say the name but I absolutely fell in love with my ex’s middle name for a potential kid. Oh well.

OwlOne · 28/10/2020 12:31

Margot / Sylvie / Vivien

Bruno/ Victor

BarbiesBitch · 28/10/2020 12:48

I wanted Lara, Cordelia or Delphine for a girl, and Lysander or Evan for a boy but husband vetoed
DH wanted Myah, Ava or Scarlett for a girl and Harrison, Hunter or Freddie for a boy but there not my style of names really. He loves all the top 10 names whereas I prefer something a bit more unusual if at all possible.

Enko · 28/10/2020 18:46

@BarbiesBitch Lysander is amazing If I had, had free range mine would have been names like Aida and Lakme Lysander would fit right in Grin

I wanted Beatrice for a girl but we had a boy. I loved Noel (it was the name of my maternal uncle that died really young) but I didn’t use it as my grandma was still alive at the time and I didn’t want to upset her.
In the end my son had two family names

MrsB2019x · 28/10/2020 19:45

We are still TTC so haven’t had to seriously think about names yet, but I bring it up every now and then. DH has nothing to bring to the table but has already vetoed Holly as there was a Holly who lived down his road when he was younger and she was vile apparently. 🥺

Peccary · 29/10/2020 21:27

Lara for me but DH wanted to use his late mum's name as a middle name which was Lorna. Just didn't work. DD will most likely be an only child. We'll have to get another cat.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/10/2020 21:32

I'm still sad I didn't get to use Matilda for DD and Barnaby for DS.

Ikeameatballs · 29/10/2020 21:43

I’ve always loved Daniel but ex-p vetoed it as he knew a really nasty one.

I liked Edwin but it was a complete no go with a surname that was far too similar.

I often wish that dd’s middle name (Isobel) was her first name.

RosieLemonade · 31/10/2020 07:14

Georgia. In my mind the perfect girls name but DH has a cousin called it and I have two friends called it.
