Thinking of Laurie for DS. I think it's a beautiful name but hesitant because of how old fashioned it is! Any thoughts?

I think its great! I would go with Lawrence/ Laurence and use Laurie, that's just my preference. It is old fashioned but the older names are in and I think it works and an alternative to Louis that is popular around me currently.

Rowenberryjelly · 26/10/2020 12:23

A lovely classic name.

Janaih · 26/10/2020 12:26

I would also go with Lawrence/Laurence.
I love the old fashioned names but not keen on giving the shortened versions as only names. Give them a choice when they are older.

TheVanguardSix · 26/10/2020 22:54

DH is Laurie (Laurence). I wouldn't call your DS Laurie on the birth cert. but as a nickname.

Farcry66 · 26/10/2020 23:00

I have a Laurence shortened to Laurie or Lolly depending on my mood. It's a lovely name doesn't sound too out there and he is the only one in school with that name. I think it's a classic timeless name.

DramaAlpaca · 26/10/2020 23:02

It's lovely. I'd put Laurence on the birth certificate.

August20 · 26/10/2020 23:02

I quite like it but as a nickname.

aToadOnTheWhole · 27/10/2020 08:18

Use Laurence/Lawrence on the birth certificate.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 27/10/2020 08:19

I love it, but unlike the rest I'm not keen on Lawrence so much.

Backtoblack1 · 27/10/2020 08:20

Ladderofyears · 27/10/2020 10:11

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 11:50

Lorry

Whatsyourflava · 27/10/2020 11:53

One of my favourite names. I just love it. So classic yet underused. Also does not sound dated or try hard (whatever that means). It's perfect

Firebird83 · 27/10/2020 23:48

Love it

MaryShelley1818 · 28/10/2020 07:38

I love it too but another who would name Laurence and then use Laurie as a nn.

VenusClapTrap · 28/10/2020 19:51

Love it

CoalCraft · 28/10/2020 20:53

I like it as a nickname for Laurence

Katgolde · 28/10/2020 22:35

I'd also use it as nickname for Laurence

TempsPerdu · 29/10/2020 09:30

Laurie is a brilliant name (and I’m not normally a fan of -ie names for boys). Agree that I’d use Laurence as the full version though.

LittleTiger007 · 29/10/2020 16:12

Great name!

thisoneday · 29/10/2020 16:29

Makes me think of Little Women, and Laurie was always a sap in that. Sorry.

rockingchairhero · 30/10/2020 09:37

Love it :) beautiful name

PolarnOPirate · 30/10/2020 09:39

Adore it

iklboogeymum · 30/10/2020 09:39

Love it!

Tillygetsit · 30/10/2020 22:25

I love it but dh vetoed Lawrence as being too old man in cardigan Hmm I know an adult Laurie...just that. Suited him fine. I personally don't think you need the full name.
