Thoughts on Stefan?

Not really sure why, but this is one of my favourite names. DH likes it as well. Think it has a nice sound to it, more handsome sounding than Stephen, which I don’t mind but dislike the nickname Steve (sounds like an old man down the pub kind of name). Stefan Joseph Jones would be the full name if we did go for it

I like it and the full name works really well. I would assume the nickname would be Stef or that people would just use Stefan.

Silvertogold · 24/10/2020 22:26

I love it but people's first thought will probably be vampire diaries....

Frequentcarpetflyer · 24/10/2020 22:26

How would you pronounce it?

DramaAlpaca · 24/10/2020 22:38

It's pronounced STEFF-un.

I like it.

Userzzz · 24/10/2020 22:41

Love it. Very Slavic name.

Ladderofyears · 24/10/2020 23:21

I really like it although the ones I know tend to pronounce it more like STEFF-an than with an -un ending.
One of our close friends is Stefan but he is called Stef all the time. I think it's a great name.

Lizadork · 24/10/2020 23:23

Fan of vampire diaries too but in itself still a lovely name and not everyone will jump to the show. Just don't name the next one Damon Grin I say go for it!

confusedpombear · 24/10/2020 23:26

Sorry it reminds me of the vampire diaries!

Cherry321 · 24/10/2020 23:30

LOVE it. Was going to call my son Steffan (Welsh version) but when he came out he didn’t look like a Steffan. It’s a lovely name.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 24/10/2020 23:32

As someone of a slightly older generation the name Stefan makes me think Edberg. But I do like the name.

I went straight there too.

And I was definitely team Damon.

Oh I dunno.... I think if I had a Stefan I'd HAVE to have a Damon too.

Lizadork · 25/10/2020 00:24

And an Elena Grin

MrsEricBana · 25/10/2020 00:28

Like it (Steff-an here too)

jessstan1 · 25/10/2020 01:56

I like it. It is used with that pronunciation and spelling in Ireland quite a lot. Go for it.

EriAndo · 25/10/2020 01:03

I went to school with a lad called Stefan in the 80s. Weirdly enough, his nn is Steve!
He’s been known as Steve since we were 10!

alexdgr8 · 25/10/2020 01:04

i prefer Stephen.

EuphieKat · 25/10/2020 01:11

I would have used the name if DD had been a boy (but would have spelt it Steffan). I love the name! It would have been Steffan James or Steffan Rhys.

MikeUniformMike · 25/10/2020 07:14

I know a nice adult Steffan (Welsh) and it suits him.
I prefer Stephen to Stefan but both are fine.

He will get called Stef.

BikeRunSki · 25/10/2020 07:22

I really like it. I’m not familiar with the Vampire Diaries.

emilybrontescorsett · 25/10/2020 08:52

Sounds great with your choice of middle name and surname.
