What do you think of Sian for a girl,
Jethro for a boy?

Thanks

Not keen on Jethro.
Siân is lovely if you speak welsh but a bit meh otherwise.

Not keen on Jethro, Sian is a bit bland, I would use it as a middle name.

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 13:07

Siân is Jane in Welsh. I'd use Jane instead as it's pretty, classic and uncomplicated.

@MikeUniformMike

My name is Jane! I didn't know sian was welsh for Jane. I will have to think of something else

Siân was very popular in my age group (think as popular as Sarah). It sounds slightly different in Welsh. Only very slightly but it makes a difference - it's more Shaan than Shahn IYKWIM.

Sioned or Siwan might be alternatives (Janet and Joan/Joanna)
Sioned is pron. SHON-ed and Siwan SHOO-an or S-EWE-an. Both probably a PITA outside Wales. Of the two I prefer Siwan.

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 14:27

Siwan might be easier explained as pron like SI-wan.

Jethro is brilliant. Jet is a cool short form.

ZebraKid71 · 24/10/2020 20:40

I love them both.

Ladderofyears · 25/10/2020 15:10

I like Jethro.
I'm not keen on Sian - has always seemed a bit wet sounding to me. (I was nearly called Sian).

Giganticshark · 25/10/2020 15:11

Sian is nice. Jethro is err... Hmm.
