Pronunciation would be add-uh-line and a potential nickname of Ada. Which spelling would you choose? I prefer traditional spellings in general but I’m leaning towards Adaline at present.

Spelling wise I'd say Adaline rather than Adeline as youre more likely to get people pronouncing it Ada-line I think?

Onceuponatimethen · 20/10/2020 21:48

Adela is lovely

mathanxiety · 20/10/2020 22:07

I would just use Ada. It's a beautiful name in and of itself.

All the rest sound like someone with adenoid problems.

Holliej · 20/10/2020 22:07

Adaline is how I would spell it. Was going to be my girls name if DS was a girl. It’s lovely xx

VenusClapTrap · 20/10/2020 22:20

Adeline

DramaAlpaca · 20/10/2020 23:01

I'd go for Adeline.

Nutmegpapaya · 20/10/2020 23:08

I'd spell it Adeline

Ughmaybenot · 20/10/2020 23:10

It’s got to be Adeline surely?

beepbeepsheep · 20/10/2020 23:10

I've always loved this name and would spell it Adeline. If you like Ada as a nickname I once met an Adriana which I thought was really nice.

tombliboozey · 20/10/2020 23:26

I would spell Adeline

Ellmau · 21/10/2020 00:17

Adeline.

Squeakerfoot · 21/10/2020 01:01

Adeline

LoveFall · 21/10/2020 01:04

My grandmother's middle name was Adelia. It sounded lovely and feminine to me. My other grandmother was Adelaide. They called her Adie. I go Adel as a middle name for both. Never liked it much but i do love Adelia.

Figgyboa · 21/10/2020 01:22

Adeline

Peachbubble · 21/10/2020 08:10

Adeline

theamplifier · 21/10/2020 08:37

Definitely spell it Adeline.

KiposWonderbeasts · 21/10/2020 08:40

Adeline.

Using Adaline would look like a typo, or that you can’t spell. Think ‘Micheal’

LittleTiger007 · 21/10/2020 10:49

Adeline would be correct spelling. If you use Adeleine people will pronounce it Ad eh lane.

No matter what spelling you use, your DD will be nicknamed Addie in school because Adeline and all the other birth cert names you are considering have that initial short A sound.

If you want to call her Ada, which has a long A sound, then I think you should make that her official name.

DazzlingDaisy · 21/10/2020 18:03

I know an Adeline called Addie.

I would just go with Ada if that's what you want though.

MikeUniformMike · 21/10/2020 18:09

I don't like any of them or Ada or Adele.
Ada is the least bad one.

Onceuponatimethen · 21/10/2020 19:07

Adela is a very old name - dates back to Middle Ages. I know a charming ten year old Adela - it is often abbreviated to Addie with her

Firebird83 · 21/10/2020 21:55

Adeline
