In my head I pronounce this Matt-ay-as but the only one I know in real life pronounces on Matt-ee-as. I actually like both but a bit concerned about the number of variations on it causing issues.

How would you pronounce it?
Do you think there are too many different spellings/pronunciations that it would be a complete pain ?

I have an often misspelt and mispronounced name and feel like I'd be subjecting my child to the same!

There aren't many names that don't/can't have different pronunciations, and it's not like it's an out there name or way of saying it, probably more a regional difference.

Reminds me of a character from a James Bond movie. Good guy.

Matt-ay-us would be Matheus or Mateus.

Maybe you are thinking of Matteo (Mat-tay-o).

I knew one who was matt-ee-us. Very good looking and very clever and a nice guy so I have positive associations with the name.

I thought the spelling was Matthias. The only one I've ever met pronounced it Matt-TAY-us but I think Math-HAY-uz is possibly the more common pronunciation.

I would spell it Matthias and pronounce it MATT - ee - us but with a very short ee.
In my pronunciation it would sound similar to Thaddeus (with different consonants obviously).
I would pronounce Matteo as Matt - AY - o with a much longer second syllable.
