Baby girl due in 4 weeks. Think we have finally settled on first name Violet nn ViVi.
We are struggling for the middle name.
Rose is a family middle name but I would really like to incorporate my mums name in some way. Mums name is Linda but I really don't want to use the full version.
So our options are
Violet Rose (no linda but flower heavy?)
Violet Linnie (Linnie meaning pretty in Spanish/Portuguese)
Violet Linnie Rose (too much?)
Violet Lynn (violin?)
Violet Rose-lynn (trailer park with the hyphen Lynn?)
None of the above and use an unsentimental middle name.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
Thanks 😊

Violet Linnie.

Violet Linnie Rose is far too much. I don't like 2 flowers in 1 name. Violet Linnie is adorable.

Luckingfovely · 14/10/2020 15:22

Yup, Violet Linnie is the best option.

giletrouge · 14/10/2020 15:31

What about combining the Rose and the Linda into Rosalynn?
Violet Rosalynn.

TenShortStories · 14/10/2020 15:51

Violet Linnie is great - go for that one.

LarkDescending · 14/10/2020 16:01

Linnie isn't a word in either Spanish or Portuguese, I don't think (linda is).

With Violet I find the Lynn, Linnie options too violinny.

I like pp's suggestion of mn Rosalyn(n) (or Rosalind perhaps?).

orangenasturtium · 14/10/2020 16:07

How about Rosalinda or Linnet?

I think Linnet Rose sounds lovely but it is possibly too similar to work with Violet. Violet Rosalinda could work.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 14/10/2020 16:19

I think Violet Linda sounds nicer than Violet Linnie. Linnie feels unfinished and nicknamey.

Rosalind, Melinda, Lucinda, Emelinda.
Lynette as someone else mentioned.

mylittleavalon · 14/10/2020 16:25

Violet Linnie I think is nice. Have you thought of Belinda?

maryberryslayers · 14/10/2020 16:37

Violet Rosalind is pretty.

bridgetreilly · 14/10/2020 17:26

I really like Linnet Rose which could have nn Linnie.

elfran · 14/10/2020 18:21

Violet Rosalind or Violet Roslyn. I'd avoid having Rose in there (too flower-heavy alongside Violet) and Linnie just feels odd and incomplete. I'm not a fan of nicknames as first names, but it feels even stranger as a middle!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 14/10/2020 18:23

Linnie doesn't mean anything in Spanish or Portuguese I'm afraid, OP. Linda does. If you really don't want to use Linda then tbh you may as well choose a completely different middle name. I don't see how your alternatives achieve your intention of honouring your mum.

It's a bit of a stretch but I suppose you could use a different name with the same meaning as Linda, e.g. Belle / Bella.

WashYourFins · 14/10/2020 18:34

If you want Vivi as the nickname, why not go for Vivienne instead of Violet?

What about Lynette instead of Linnie?

Firebird83 · 14/10/2020 18:55

Violet Rosalind or Violet Linda

MikeUniformMike · 14/10/2020 19:17

Use Linda as a middle name. It is a very pretty name.
Linnie would be like saying you don't like your mum's name and is too nicknamey.

Rosalind is lovely. Not keen on ViVi or Violet. and Violet will be Vi - rhymes with eye.

CarrieBlu · 14/10/2020 19:20

Lindsey instead of Linda?

Ellmau · 14/10/2020 19:27

Linnet or Linnea perhaps rather than Linnie, which sounds like a nickname.

Or Rosalind would be lovely.

Quercus3 · 14/10/2020 21:08

What about Linnhe, like Loch Linnhe? Same sound, might look a bit more finished

DramaAlpaca · 14/10/2020 21:15

Honestly, I think you should either use your mum's name as it is or don't bother. Changing Linda to one of your suggestions above makes it look like you don't like Linda and aren't honouring your mum at all, IYSWIM.

Violet Linda Rose is nice, or even Violet Rosalinda.

thisismadness77 · 14/10/2020 21:17

Linnie is lovely. I’d switch them round!

Brunt0n · 14/10/2020 21:20

Violet Lyn

jessstan1 · 14/10/2020 22:32

i quite like Violet Lyn too.

Linnie sounds like it's been made up but it is actually a name and means 'pretty'. I can't say I care for it.

VenusClapTrap · 15/10/2020 20:00

I think you should use your mum’s actual name too. It’s a middle name, it doesn’t get used very often, but the gesture is there. And Violet Linda sounds perfectly nice.
