I'm not joking.... Buzz

DH has come home from work and out of nowhere he loves the name Buzz. Apparently he met someone today called Buzz and really wants to use it. I've never seen him more passionate about a name. I hate it. At first I thought it was a wind up but I think he might be serious. There is not a chance I will be naming my child Buzz. Can you think of any names that could possibly be similar to Buzz? I might have to compromise with a similar middle name. I don't know what to do.

Just. NO. Unless you want the kid to hate you.

JuliaJohnston · 13/10/2020 20:49

He is passionate about it? I'd be concerned, tbh.

SBTLove · 13/10/2020 20:50

I know a lovely black labrador called Buzz 🤣🐶

Oneandabean · 13/10/2020 20:51

Basil maybe?

Aquamarine1029 · 13/10/2020 20:51

Has your husband suffered a head injury? That's the only reason I can imagine as to how he can be passionate about the name Buzz. It's fucking ridiculous.

KooKooKachu · 13/10/2020 20:51

Wasn't that the name of one of the kids in Home Alone?

Bettyfromduggee · 13/10/2020 20:51

Also no. Definitely.
Sorry can’t think of any similar names. Too traumatised at the thought of someone calling their child buzz.

TinaTraybake · 13/10/2020 20:51

@JuliaJohnston
Yep, I'm a bit concerned if I'm honest 🙈

I'm really not sure what's happened today which has made him love the name, I think he needs an early night

Buzz Aldrin is the only Buzz I’ve ever heard of! (apart from Lightyear obviously Grin)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/10/2020 20:54

Well Woody although not ridiculously popular has taken off. Plus it doesn’t seem to have done Buzz Aldrin any harm.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 13/10/2020 20:54

At least you seem to realise that you’re naming a person, not a Dalmatian puppy.

Like honestly, is your DH off his rocker? Imagine being a 38 year old, slightly balding accountant or something else normal and introducing yourself as Buzz.

I’d agree to Buzz as a nickname but would I fuck be putting it anywhere near a birth cert.

Tuliptulip · 13/10/2020 20:54

Has he been watching Toy Story? Hmm
Eyre89 · 13/10/2020 20:55

Tell him

Buzz off
Buzz lightyear
Buzz - the annoying older brother from home alone

Its American so more acceptable there, was the person today American? But kids would torment the kid here.

If you Google names similar to buzz they're all pretty bad. Maybe show him that?

doctorhamster · 13/10/2020 20:55

Buzz can't be the actual name of someone he met today, surely? It's a nickname or is short for something?

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 13/10/2020 20:55

Giovanna and Tom Fletcher's son is called buzz, the other buddy. They don't sound strange when she says them for some reason!

fizzyandbusy · 13/10/2020 20:56

Buzz Aldrin's actual name is Edwin. Buzz is a nickname.

Scarby9 · 13/10/2020 20:56

Tom Fletcher's (Christmasaurus) oldest son is Buzz (next one is Buddy, can't remember the third). Neither of them sound like actual names to me, but the kids seem happy, and it is none of my business...

However, OP, it is your business! What about a name that could have Buzz as a nickname? Something like Barnabas, maybe?

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 13/10/2020 20:56

Buzz Aldrin is the only Buzz I’ve ever heard of! (apart from Lightyear obviously Grin)
And his real name was Edwin.
TinaTraybake · 13/10/2020 20:57

I'm really hoping it was a nickname, you've got to be an interesting character to suit a name like Buzz

OP posts:
clary · 13/10/2020 20:57

Buzz Aldrin was not called Buzz (tho he is now) - it was his sister's mispronunciation of brother as "buzza". His actual given name was Eric. Or Colin. Or something that's a name.

TinaTraybake · 13/10/2020 20:58

Oh yes Tom Fletcher does! I'd forgotten about that. Buzz Michaelangelo I'm pretty sure is his son.

OublietteBravo · 13/10/2020 20:58

I knew a Buzz at university. Her real name was Elizabeth.

clary · 13/10/2020 20:59

massive X post. Oh yeah Edwin. Sorry op that's not what you asked. How about something like Barney or Bradley nn Buzz? (hmmmm)

LizzieSiddal · 13/10/2020 20:59

I know an 8 year old who’s name is Edwin, he’s only ever been called Buzz, even at school.
