I was actually thinking of naming my newly adopted cat Towser, but my friend said it's an apprentice engineer's name!

Towzy or Teasel would be nice cat names, especially if long-haired.

So it's not for a baby? I dont think anyone cares what someone calls their pet do they? Unless you called your cat Rover I can't imagine anyone would be the least bit interested.

I just looked it up and according to Goog-elle it's: A given name for a dog.

It's perfectly natural to consider a multitude of names when pregnant and perfectly normal to later wonder what on earth you were thinking when you reflect on some of the names on your long list. Or not.

Also, as much as people are saying Toswer is ridiculous for a kids name (can't lie i wouldn't use it myself either) if there was suddenly some hot Brando-esque actor on the celeb scene called Toswer tides would soon change and you'd start to see it peppered all over mumsnet.

For now I think perhaps avoid Towser as it rhymes with trouser is unusual and apparently strongly associated with a cartoon dog.

As a servant to a cat with a dog's name, I say go for it. It's not half as controversial as giving a girl a boy's name.
