My favourites from your girls names are Juliette and Charis.

For the boys I like Kit and Joel.

Choosing names, v exciting
Charis / they’re different sounding names , Charis has a CH as in chapel

Callie ok bit of a Labrador name if I’m being honest

Cassia No, sounds like Casio the calculator

Juliette, ok

Leonie (how would you pronounce this?) LEE- OH-KNEE
Romilly. Yes I like that
Phoebe not so keen, it’s the. Friends association

Finn Yes like it
Kit No it’s Ghastly,
Jude Yes like it
Joel yes like it
Ryan yes like it

SaffieSoph · 06/10/2020 17:47

Oh I love all the girls names, so pretty. I really wanted Leonie (lee-oo-nee) for my DD but my DH wasn’t keen. That’s my favourite, then Callie.

Boys names in order of preference - Kit, Jude, then Finn. Not a fan of Joel or Ryan I’m afraid but that’s just because I know a couple so can’t imagine it on a baby.

user1493494961 · 06/10/2020 18:00

Really dislike Callie, Leonie and Ryan. Like all the other boys names, would choose Cassia or Juliet (prefer this spelling).

ElowenSmile · 06/10/2020 18:28

Thanks all, very helpful.

@SentientAndCognisant Charis is pronounced the same as Karis (as in Charisma), but its this which puts me off. I prefer the Charis spelling, but am worried people will pronounce it as you have just said!

@SaffieSoph I love Leonie, just there seems to be about 3 different pronunciations. I have known a leon-ie and a lee-OH-nee. I like both!

OP posts:
Oneandabean · 06/10/2020 18:37

Have you thought of the more known spelling of Carys?
Leonie I would say as Lee-OH-nee, was the surname of a school teacher.
I like cassia and phoebe.

I like kit as a nickname but not as a stand alone name, and Ryan is nice

FatherTedsBankAccount · 06/10/2020 18:40

Cassia and Phoebe are lovely. I don't like your other girls' names. (Ignore the ridiculous calculator comparison! Also being able to do maths = fab!!)

Love Finn for a boy.

But I never agree with Mumsnet on names!

ElowenSmile · 06/10/2020 18:41

I have, but feel a bit weird using that as we are not welsh. Which i know is stupid because Charis/Karis is Greek we are not that either Hmm

SentientAndCognisant · 06/10/2020 18:51

Thing about names is they are personal and it can be divisive
I didn’t know that about Charis, having a hard K, So thanks for clarifying

Many names are widely popular out with their original domain/country so it’s not a universal no you can’t use. I’d say main thins is be able to pronounce it properly

There are coach loads of Bethan, Morven, Carys who aren’t Welsh

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/10/2020 18:55

Such an interesting list, you have both my favourite and least favourite names..

Love karis Juliette and especially Romilly.

Love Fin Kit and Joel

ElowenSmile · 06/10/2020 18:56

No, I know, you are absolutely right. My daughter's name is French. I think it's because it's one of the home nations that i feel slightly odd about using a welsh name when I am not. Not saying that's at all rational!

@ThroughThickAndThin01 that's funny i have managed to hit both sides!

Love Juliette, it was on my dc2's list. Love Calleigh (prefer this spelling) but wasn't brave enough to use it.

Finn, Jude and Ryan are 3 of my favourite boys names.

Not a big fan of the rest. They might grow on me. All apart from Romilly. Can't see that growing on me.

Firebird83 · 06/10/2020 19:14

Lavenderleaves · 06/10/2020 19:53

Charis /Karis - just feel this is the wrong spelling and should be Carys
Callie - no!
Cassia- don't mind it but Katya is much nicer
Juliette too frilly for me

BarbeDwyer · 06/10/2020 20:14

Charis /Karis - not keen.
Callie - prefer Cally, short for Caroline
Cassia - bark
Juliette - prefer Juliet
Leonie (how would you pronounce this?) - not keen, Lee-un-y
Romilly - don't like
Phoebe - like best from the list

Finn - nice but popular if you add Finley etc to the mix
Kit - no
Jude - dislike
Joel - fine
Ryan - overused about 20 yrs ago, so a no

MikeUniformMike · 06/10/2020 20:39

Morven is scottish.

MeMeMeYou · 06/10/2020 21:23

Juliette
Carys rather than Karis
Finn

SentientAndCognisant · 06/10/2020 21:45

Morven, Scottish? Haha get me, confidently listing it as Welsh

POP7777777 · 06/10/2020 21:47
