Baby name help?

I have two children already, I didn't really get much say in their names because a certain in law didn't like our choices.
I'm currently pregnant with our third and this time we want to name them what we want.

I really love the names Sage/Saige, Rue and Seren for a girl but struggling for middle names?
So which name do you prefer and suggest a middle name for, not grace, may or all the other really popular middle names please.

We've decided on Rory for a boy but I can't for the life of me think of a middle name for that either.

A little bit of help would be appreciated 😂

I don't have any advice regarding the choosing of a name, but for Christ's sake, don't tell anyone AT ALL what you've chosen. You can guarantee they'll nix it, and it's none of their bloody business!

Catsandkittens638297 · 06/10/2020 13:37

@gokartdillydilly yeah we've learnt our lesson the past two times, someone always has an issue with the names and we end up changing them and regretting it

I love sage and Rue, my DD middle names are Seren Amelia which I think go lovely together.

emmathedilemma · 06/10/2020 13:49

Rue would be a boy's name to me - either from Rhuaridh, Andrew or Rueben.
Seren is quite nice, I'm not a massive fan of Sage, it reminds me of the concert hall in Gateshead!!
I think Rory goes with a lot of names (depending on your surname).....James, Matthew, Thomas....do you want something classic, modern?? No family links to names you can use?

VenusClapTrap · 06/10/2020 14:25

I love Rue. You could put quite a long middle name with it -
Rue Marjolaine
Rue Josephine
Rue Marigold

Just avoid anything beginning with D, as it might sound like ‘Rude’!

VenusClapTrap · 06/10/2020 14:26

Ooh Rue Nerine! I like that.

WildCherryBlossom · 06/10/2020 14:47

Rue is "Road" in French so any French sounding middle name is running the risk of sounding like an address in Marseille or wherever.

Rue in English means "to regret".

Sage is a lovely herb but as herb names go I much prefer Sorrel.

Personally I like Seren best of the three. Welsh for Star I think. Perhaps a Welsh middle name? Seren Alys flows well.

garlictwist · 06/10/2020 14:48

Really not keen on seren.

Rory is a great name.

LovelyBranches · 06/10/2020 14:52

If you are considering Reuben, please don’t spell Reuben as Rueben it’s a complete misspelling.

Seren is beautiful and if you wanted a Welsh name Seren Angharad would be lovely.

Seren Cordelia
Seren Phoebe
Seren Faye
Seren Charlotte
Seren Melissa

Tillygetsit · 06/10/2020 22:38

I love Seren. How about Seren Rue as you like both the names.

MercyBodle · 07/10/2020 05:51

Seren is my favourite of your girls' names. I think it's quite lovely. Seren Rue works. I also love Rory.
Seren Maisie
Seren Eliza
Seren Penelope
Seren Felicity

Rory Theodore
Rory Sebastian
Rory Jasper
Rory Felix

CatteStreet · 07/10/2020 05:57

Rue is not a good choice, for the reasons outlined by WildCherryBlossom, plus she will get people spelling it 'Roo', with the risk of attendant Kanga jokes.

I don't think Sage is really a name either, tbh.

Seren is nice.

How about Rowan? Unisex (one of the rare few genuinely unisex names IMO) and fits your style.

MikeUniformMike · 07/10/2020 20:37

Sage/Saige - Sage is quite topical - Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies. Accounts software. Wise person.
Saige is a bit grim.
Rue - regret? street? toxic herb?
Seren - not keen

If you like herb names, how about a less unusual one like Rosemary, Tansy, Sorrel, Myrtle, Marigold ...

MikeUniformMike · 07/10/2020 20:38

Stuart as a mn?

Britannah · 07/10/2020 21:25

Seren Elise sounds lovely IMO. What about Rory Tobias or Rory Hendrix if you are looking for something a little less popular :)

Creamteafatty · 18/10/2020 11:22

Rue sounds nice but it means bitter regret.

Sage = herb and sage advise.

I like Seren best from your list.

Do you like Anise or Saffron?

Seren Christine
Seren Rosa
Seren Veronica
Seren Anise
Seren Calla
Seren Estelle

Spied · 18/10/2020 11:27

Seren Olivia (suggested by a pp) was my first thought. Beautiful.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/10/2020 11:31

Don't do Rue. I rue the day you were ever born!!

Seren Aurora?
Saige Madeline?

Rory Augustus.

How many syllables in your surname?

finished31 · 18/10/2020 11:35

Sage is lovely.

Sage Charlotte
Sage Alannah
Sage Eloise

Rory Phillip
Rory Parker
Rory William

Wotsitone · 18/10/2020 12:46

Seren is lovely, my favs would be
Seren Amelia
Seren Olivia

Tweetypietwo · 18/10/2020 21:02

Rory George
Seren Faith

CaffiSaliMali · 19/10/2020 09:13

Seren is pretty but it is often mispronounced as Serrun in England IME. You may find yourself having to correct people.

I quite like Sage but I would avoid it at the moment due to SAGE being in the news so much because of the pandemic.

Rue makes me think of 'rue the day' and the dead 12 year old in the Hunger Games.

Middle names:
Seren Elizabeth
Seren Margaret
Seren Alexandra
Seren Katharine
Seren Mary
Seren Morwenna
Seren Sophia
Seren Natasha
Seren Juliet
Seren Charlotte

Seren Alice/Alys as suggested by a PP is nice, same with Seren Olivia.

Rory is lovely.

Rory James
Rory Thomas
Rory Edward
Rory Henry
Rory Christopher
Rory Nicholas
Rory Alexander
Rory Jonathan
Rory Benjamin
Rory Francis
Rory Patrick
Rory David
Rory Peter

Love Sage, Rue and Seren. Can we ask what initial your surname starts with @Catsandkittens638297?
