Hello,

We’ve managed to narrow down our initial list, but I feel like I missed some! Below are what we’ve got so far, please feel free to let me know your favorite or any suggestions based on what we have Smile

For reference, I am English and DH is from a Scottish/Irish family. We also both have names that have diminutives, which we like as it offers lots of options!

Girls:

Alice
Felicity
Victoria
Saoirse
Poppy
Esme
Stephanie
Ellis
Alexandra

Boys:

William
Nicholas
Thomas
Hamish
Elliott
Edward
James
Alexander
George
Angus
Max
Lachlan

Alexandra and Alexander are two of our favourites also! I also like Qlive and James, not too keen on the rest.
I'd only use Lachlan if people can pronounce it correctly as so many say it like Lacklan 😊

Alice ... stupid typos

SeanCailleach · 08/10/2020 21:08

They're all strong. If you like Saorse, then maybe one of these:
Sheena/ Síona
Sheehan/ Síochán
Shanahan/ Seanachán

Shanahan and Sheehan are surnames, I've never heard of them being used as first names. The Irish language spellings are all slightly wrong afaik.
LizzieAnt · 08/10/2020 22:46

Sorry, Seanachán spelling ok, though really very old and fallen out of use. Probably was a boys' name?

Esmae

Sarah
Emily
Sophie
Charlotte.
David
Robert
Christopher

Girls:

Alice - love!
Felicity - nice
Victoria - love
Saoirse - pretty
Poppy - not keen
Esme - nice enough but I know lots of kids called this, it seemed to be "the" name between about 2014-2018 round where I am
Stephanie - really nice!
Ellis - not keen
Alexandra - love

Boys:

William - nice but a bit plain?
Nicholas - nice
Thomas - nice but again maybe on the plain side! Good name all the same
Hamish - not bad but not my fave!
Elliott - nice
Edward - nice but a bit old fashioned for me
James - nice
Alexander - love
George - love
Angus - ok
Max - love
Lachlan - quite like this actually!

I don't think I have seen Shanahan or Sheehan used as first names, but they sound like names. Saoirse as a name is quite a recent usage, so why not?
TheVanguardSix · 09/10/2020 06:57

Ellis and William are my favourites on your list.

SeanCailleach · 09/10/2020 07:04

Oh fab! Sheehan is a Hindi name that means peaceful one, same as in Irish.

Shutupyoutart · 09/10/2020 07:44

Alice and saoirse are my faves out of the girls names. James and Alexander are my fave boys names
