I know someone called Gianni who goes by Gia. I think it's lovely

FTMF30 · 04/10/2020 19:22

I like it. Is it pronounced 'jee-ah'?

lifeofpuns · 04/10/2020 19:24

Yes @FTMF30 Jee-a :)

Have you seen the film? If not, watch it before committing to the name.
I like the name btw.

lifeofpuns · 04/10/2020 19:28

@GirlCalledJames no :/ is it a bad thing?

missmouse101 · 04/10/2020 19:40

It makes me think of 'jeer' which is an unattractive noise. Bit meh otherwise.

GirlCalledJames · 04/10/2020 19:47

It’s got a lot of naked Angelina Jolie so probably a good film for many.
The supermodel is the only Gia I’ve ever heard of so others may make the connection too, which is why I’d watch the film. It needn’t put you off.
My daughter’s name is in the title of a well-known film and we rewatched it after choosing the name but before she was born to be sure it wouldn’t come back to haunt us.

steppemum · 04/10/2020 19:54

This name came up in a thread recently, and the person had a dd named Gia and was annoyed that people assumed it was pronounced
with a G like in garage.

I pointed out that to me it looked like an alternative spelling of Gaia, and would have expected it to be prnounce Guy-a.
But they had never heard Gaia

So look forward to a lot of confusion!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/10/2020 20:02

I prefer Gaia but think Gia is nice too

FTMF30 · 04/10/2020 20:13

@lifeofpuns

Yes *@FTMF30* Jee-a :)
That's what I thought. It's a lovely name and quite rare (in England anyway) 🙂
bridgetreilly · 04/10/2020 20:27

I know it as a nickname mostly for Gianna, though probably other things too. It's okay but I don't love it.

MercyBodle · 05/10/2020 02:01

I like it.

micc · 05/10/2020 06:17

I love it, but it does sound like a nn, I would think it was short for something. I knew a Georgina that was NN Gia but that's the only time I've ever heard it! Sounds lovely

VenusClapTrap · 05/10/2020 08:37

Nice. I also like Giselle.

lifeofpuns · 05/10/2020 09:15

Thank you for the replies. I love it. Always good to get some views in case anything crops up that we weren't aware of etc. We aren't discussing names with anyone else so it helps

I like it, but I think most people's reference will be the addict model who died of aids.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 05/10/2020 10:09

Really pretty name. Does remind me of the supermodel/ film but still a lovely name!

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 10/10/2020 15:37

Nice. I think of Italian American girls and English mums who like names along the lines of Gigi, Chanel and Darcey.

autumnredhead · 10/10/2020 15:52

It's gorgeous. Gia, it's sounds lovely. Go for it.

lifeofpuns · 10/10/2020 19:05

Thanks all ❤️ Keep them coming
