Opinions on this name? Do you think it's a good choice for a baby girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MildDrPepperAddiction · 04/10/2020 12:46

It makes me think of one of Hugh Heffner's girlfriends

SeanCailleach · 04/10/2020 13:45

Character in Harry Potter - Dumbledore's mother?
A schoolfriend of Black Caribbean heritage.
A Black girl at American summer camp who was known as Kenny.
Idk if it is a Black name.

hypochondriacseveywhere · 04/10/2020 13:48

Agree with PP reminds me of one of Hef's old girlfriends.

nitgel · 04/10/2020 13:48

its' nice I knew one back in the 70s. it's quiet pretty

finallychangedmyusername · 04/10/2020 13:49

It feels like a nickname to me (but for what, I'm not sure). Maybe I'm thinking of Kenzie for Mackenzie, or Kayla for Michaela.

I'm not personally that keen, sorry OP.

Lottapianos · 04/10/2020 13:50

I know an adult Kendra, who is probably in her 40s and American. I think its lovely, never thought of it as a Playboy type name

KimberWozRobbed · 04/10/2020 13:51

Kendra the Vampire Slayer and her indescribable accent!

Nice name though.

AnnaSW1 · 04/10/2020 13:51

The only reference I have for this name is one of Hugh Hefner's 'girlfriends'

MsTSwift · 04/10/2020 13:51

Sounds like someone who was at the Playboy Mansion which would totally put me off sorry

TitOfTheIceberg · 04/10/2020 13:51

Makes me think of the character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's fine, there are far worse names.

BessMarvin · 04/10/2020 13:55

Didn't think it would take long for someone to say Buffy.

It could end up being shortened to Ken.

MimiDaisy11 · 04/10/2020 14:52

I didn't know so many people knew the names of playboy models LOL. I didn't know that was still a thing. I posted in reddit about it where it's mostly Americans and thought here where I think most people are British you'd say something different LOL.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/10/2020 14:57

I know a number of Kendra's but that's because I live in the Caribbean.

Similar to Chandra, it's a very northern US name, I've never met any in UK but tons here.

I like it, doesn't make me think of playboy bunnies at all, all the Kendra's I know are pretty level headed!

You think Nigerian parents living in Nigeria are consulting The Big Book of Black Names and finding Kendra asterisked?

Or Ethiopian parents?

Or Brazilian parents?

Wtf is a black name?

Ffs ...

eddiemairswife · 04/10/2020 15:02

I'd never heard of it, but my first thought was 'American'.

Swiftnicola · 04/10/2020 15:03

Wasn’t Hugh Hefner’s Kendra on I’m a Celeb, so it will be widely known in the uk

ChessIsASport · 04/10/2020 15:08

It is an Anglo- Saxon name. So a very English name. Like Hereward, Godwin, Mildred or Ethel.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 04/10/2020 15:08

I distantly know a Kendra who is American, lovely, and one of the cleverest people! I doubt that a child's friends will have any idea about the names of Playboy bunnies, so if you like it I'd ignore that reference and go ahead.

WellQualifiedToRepresentTheLBC · 04/10/2020 15:10

To me its an extremely whitebread American cheerleader name. Nothing wrong with that per se, just not my bag.

Yamaya · 04/10/2020 15:11

I really like it. Didn't know it was a playboy thing!

CrazyOldBagLady · 04/10/2020 15:20

It's a nice name. I too only know the playboy bunny Kendra (from the fly on the wall TV show) , so assumed it was an American name. I wouldn't let that put you off though. To the people who know your daughter, she will become the Kendra the name reminds them of.

ScarMatty · 04/10/2020 15:26

Playboy

Marmite27 · 04/10/2020 15:27

Will she be a vampire slayer?

MidnightFlit · 04/10/2020 15:27

I never knew it was an OE name! You learn something every day on here.

JustanotherTuesday · 04/10/2020 15:28

I actually think it's a nice name but I do like a lot of American names. It's unusual but not too unusual.
