Abel Rey?

Currently really struggling to choose a boys name. I love Abel and it's my current favourite. DH really likes the middle name Rey for a boy and I don't think it would work with our other options ( Cedar Rey, Denny Rey, Henry Rey, Corey Rey) I've only ever known women with the spelling Rey. Do you have any suggestions for middle names that could go with Abel or does Rey work?

Rey looks feminine to me. Surely it needs to be Ray for a boy?

I'd use the Ray spelling (short for Raymond).

Abel William
Abel Charles
Abel Max
Abel George
Abel Felix

Yes I thought that the Ray/Rae spelling was better for a boy.
@Auto thank you for the suggestions, I really like Max

I would spell it Ray

Oneandabean · 02/10/2020 19:11

Use ray for a boy, Rey/Rae are girls

PlantPotting · 02/10/2020 19:15

Ray is nice

Or Rex or Axel or Rudy

I like Abel

CodenameVillanelle · 02/10/2020 19:28

Not Rae for a boy!

TinaTraybake · 02/10/2020 22:12

@PlantPotting
Thank you for the suggestions. Axel is really nice

Use the Ray spelling for a boy.

custardbear · 03/10/2020 07:31

I opened the thread expecting it to be a girls name

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 03/10/2020 07:37

I do think Rae is used much more regularly for girls as a middle name, so would spell Ray. Realistically it's not going to be very often that you say both names together. Abel is a great name.

FamilyOfAliens · 03/10/2020 07:43

The whole name sounds very much like a character from a Steinbeck novel to me, but obviously if you like it, use it.

MrsEricBana · 03/10/2020 07:43

Are you in America? These from PP work well:

Abel William
Abel Charles
Abel Max
Abel George
Abel Felix

I had an Uncle Rae and, according to my research, there's been a male called Rae in most generations of my family for at least 15 years. Sometimes it's a first name and sometimes a middle. I'm in Scotland.
From Babycentre.co.uk
Either a short form of Rachel, which means "ewe" in Hebrew or from the Scottish surname MacRae, which comes from Mac Rath, which means "son of Grace" in Gaelic.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 03/10/2020 07:48

*150 years, not 15

cheapskatemum · 03/10/2020 07:49

@FamilyOfAliens I was trying to pinpoint what I loved about Abel Rey and I think you have hit the nail on the head! I think it’s a great name.

Papoy · 03/10/2020 07:55

Ray is a nice name, I would keep it simple or pair it with some other name.... but I wouldn't pair it with Abel.

I can almost hear someone inventing a nickname for him already.

TinaTraybake · 03/10/2020 08:53

@MrsEricBana
No not in America, we're from Lancashire! Grin
Thank you for the suggestions!

@Chocolatedeficitdisorder Thank you for the information, Rae is a lovely name
