Using the same name as my ex...

We were together in our early 20s and it was a really formative relationship for me (definitely first love stuff) but we broke up over 10 years ago.

We have had nothing to do with one another in that time - no contact at all for 10 years. I live in a completely different part of the country. No mutual friends. I am now married to my soulmate and he is also married.

I had my daughter 2.5 years ago, and obviously we never used the name we had planned for a boy. Since then, my ex has had a son and used my boys name. This is just coincidence, and I only know about it because I'm still friends with his brother on Facebook.

I'm now expecting my second baby and would like to use the same name if we have a boy.

Is this weird? I have really mixed feelings about it but think I'M probably just being weird.

What do you think?

I thought you meant give the baby your ex's name at first, which would be a bit odd! But the same name as his son is fine.

It's fine.

You’re not really in any sort of contact and you’ve no mutual friends, I don’t think it would be weird given that it’s a name you’ve always loved.
Chances are it’s not that unusual a name anyway.

It’s fine.

Obviously don’t reference your ex or his child’s name, just get on and name your child. No big deal, no deal at all.

Same thing happened to me, but no FB then so we didn’t know. Bumped into him with his boy at a gathering. Just a strange coincidence.

Whatsyourflava · 27/09/2020 18:38

Completely fine

Unless you still hold a candle for him (and it doesn’t sound like you do) it’s really fine.

Enko · 28/09/2020 09:47

Completely fine

Absolutely fine. Would be a bit odd to use your ex’s actual name but his DS’s name is fine,
