Would it be strange if I used my first childs middle name which is also MY middle name as my second childs first name?
It's a family name and first time around I didn't want to use it as a first name but now its grown on me more. So would it be strange? I hope this makes sense the name is jessica

Not strange at all.
Use it.

MikeUniformMike · 27/09/2020 10:14

It might be an idea to use a different middle name for DD2.

You are Moody Jessica Surname
DD1 is Lily Jessica Surname and DD2 will be
Jessica Middlename Surname.

It does seem a bit like you had run out of names and DD2 might feel a bit shortchanged.
It's a nice name though.

Pipapple · 27/09/2020 10:17

I think it's a bit much. I know sisters who are Elspeth Jane and Janet Elizabeth and their parents didnt even realise though!

Catsarelush · 27/09/2020 10:19

There are thousands of names you could choose so not sure why you would do that.

foxyroxyyy · 27/09/2020 10:20

I think it might not be the best idea tbh.

MJMG2015 · 27/09/2020 10:28

I wouldn't use it as her first name, but I'd use it as her middle name too

Beamur · 27/09/2020 10:30

Middle names hardly get used anywhere outside of documents though, if you like it use it. My DD and her sister have almost identical middle names..

Dilligaf81 · 27/09/2020 10:33

If you love it use it.
Middle names are only really used when a baby is born and by family so dd1s middle name won't be known by many.
Believe me as someone who changed her dds name at 10 months old because I used a I wasn't 100% with, if you have a name you love use it.

perfumeistooexpensive · 27/09/2020 10:52

One of Prince George's names is Louis, but I thought it was odd and the parents had run out of ideas.

MikeUniformMike · 27/09/2020 11:00

Isn't Louis a mn of PW and PG, not to mention PW's cousin's first name.
Aren't the RF restricted as to which names they can choose?

LadyEloise · 27/09/2020 11:29

How many people know their friend's middle name ?
I don't get the kind of obsession with middle names on Mumsnet
It's of little consequence in life tbh.

Lavendersy · 27/09/2020 11:42

A little unimaginative. There are sooo many names to choose from!

Palavah · 27/09/2020 11:46

It was good enough for William and Kate, so...

MikeUniformMike · 27/09/2020 14:59

@Palavah, can you imagine Kate on here saying that they had to use a family name, and that they had already used the favourite as DS1's middle name? Maybe she really wanted to call him Jaiden-Kai.

TildaTurnip · 27/09/2020 15:55

I wouldn’t. It’s got nothing to do if others know middle names, your daughters will know. I would not like to be given a name only good enough for a middle name for my sibling.

finallychangedmyusername · 27/09/2020 16:06

I'd say you've used it already for a DD, so it would be weird to reuse it. There are so many lovely names out there and you've already used two but there are so many more more to choose from - your DD2 deserves her own names.

Suggestions, with a similar vibe to Jessica:

Emily
Rebecca
Olivia
Imogen
Jennifer

Elderflower14 · 27/09/2020 16:11

My friend used her eldest sons middle name for their youngest son...

user1493494961 · 27/09/2020 22:46

Jessica is lovely, I would use it if you want to.

MercyBodle · 28/09/2020 01:44

No problem.

Enko · 28/09/2020 09:29

I wouldn't however if a friend did i wouldn't say much and I would forget about it soon enough. Friend has done just this but when dd2 was born and name announced people said ohh like in dd1s middle name. She had to admit they had not even thought about it.
