Is Leila too popular?

Husbands top choice

I quite like Nina. Leila is lovely but it needs to be pronounced Lee-la and would hate for people to mispronounce it Lay-la

My friend Leila is Leela. I've never heard it as Layla.

Notgoingonholiday · 26/09/2020 13:49

40blah1 if you read my other posts, I have given my DD a name that isn't easily found on personalised things...so I wasn't saying don't use Leila because of that reason! Obviously you go with the name you like, surely no one would seriously take into account it's availability on personalised things in a gift shop Grin

@RHOBHfan that's funny 😁 my step mother is the Laila I know. That's how her name is pronounced. She is Latvian and that is how they pronounce it I suppose.

@becarefuloutthere

Hi *@LuluBellaBlue* fellow leila! I knew about the French for purple but didn't know about Japanese for happy, that's nice! We're a rare breed to have this name in the 34+ category. I thought I was the only one 😂 I'm used to the mispronunciation of course and just laugh and say it's lee-la but I wish I didn't have to. And the pen thing is lovely isn't it! I curl my L at the start for my signature and I just love it!
Hello (waving manically) - I too have never met another adult Leila pronounced our way (the correct way!) haha

Are you wondering if any of the posters on here that know Leila’s are actually people we know?! I bet some of these fellow mumsnetters must be friends as there really isn’t that many of us 🤣🤣🤣

Sickoffamilydrama · 26/09/2020 15:55

I was wondering that to @LuluBellaBlue we'll have to do a game of guess who with them 😉

Like does the Leila you know have blonde hair?

becarefuloutthere · 26/09/2020 20:45

@LuluBellaBlue it's nice to know I'm not alone lol! Yeah I'm wondering that too! Especially the one that said she knows a leila pronounced Leela, I'm thinking, ooh does she know me and mean me 😂
I'm named after my grandmas nickname..my grandma was called Madeline though 😂

itsjakeandamy · 26/09/2020 23:24
@itsjakeandamy I'm Australian and only know Leila to be pronounced Lay-la so she might be a rare case. Grin
Interesting! I just assumed it was standard there.

Linny88 · 03/10/2020 12:17

If you want a ‘lee-la’ pronunciation then I would spell it Lila like the Italian name

Grufallosfriends · 03/10/2020 12:24

I'd pronounce Leila like Sheila!

Layla is different.
