Hi all,

We have an Alfred George (nearly 3) and we need a name and middle name for his poor nameless new brother due in a few weeks...

Guidelines (ideally)

relatively traditional (or at least not a Ballonz)

options to shorten / lengthen (e.g Alfred could be Alf, Alfie, Freddie, Alfred)

Our surname is relatively "English" and short (e.g Davies, Willis type name)

I love Albert (Bertie), Arthur, Henry etc, very "old man" names.

DH likes Jude, Finnegan, Edgar, Sunny so a bit more out there than me.

Alfred suggested Sidney or Brontosaurus 🦕 🤷‍♀️

We can both agree on most of them but so far there is nothing we love

Please help!

Josiah, shortened to Joss.

Tweetypietwo · 26/09/2020 13:07

Brannigan
Jasper
Theodore
Frederick
Maurice (I like the mor-eece pronunciation)
Edgar - love the name, goes well with Alfred.

Think most I would have suggested have been mentioned already. Only other one I could think of was
Walter (Walt)

Sebastian (Seb)
Lawrence/Laurence (Lawrie/Laurie)
seem to fit well and I personally love.

Joslin or Jolyon.

itsjakeandamy · 26/09/2020 13:37

I know an Alfie and Arthur sibset so don't think of them as too similar.

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2020 13:42

Alfred and Wilfred are a bit too similar.

emmathedilemma · 26/09/2020 16:36

I agree, Alfred and Wilfred are a bit too alike. Sidney Brontasauras is a great name!
I like Stanley too.

FluffyEggsontoast · 26/09/2020 16:39

Sidney is lovely

theotherfossilsister · 26/09/2020 16:41

Benedict

roarfeckingroarr · 26/09/2020 17:00

Ooooh Alfred nn Freddie is very high on our list for imminently arriving baby!

I actually love Sidney. I love Percy and Lysander too. DP has more similar taste to you and likes Henry, Sebastian and Beau (wildcard).

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 26/09/2020 23:03

Alfred was my dad's name, and Stanley was my DH's (sadly neither dad is still with us, neither are our mums but that's another story for another day).

I've sent the link to this thread yo my DH, he was amazed at how many replies there were and how helpful everyone was to a stranger... think he's starting to see why I spend so much time on Mumsnet now!

We're going to write down two lists from the thread separately of names we like and see if there are any crossovers.
Will update when we have!

I promise I will come back with the name when he's here...
Had an elective section booked in for this week but they've moved me back to next week instead 🙄
So a few more days to come up with names
...

So far I've been referring to him as Poor Little NoName !
