I like this name but worry it might get shortened to Julie or Jules! What does everyone else think? Would you shorten it to that and does it matter?

The shortenings would completely put me off the name sorry

Runmybathforme · 24/09/2020 16:46

Yes, sorry, first thing I thought of was ‘ Julie ‘, sprang instantly to mind. Poor kid’s life would be a misery at school.

It will be shortened by some, three syllable names always are. The name julius is fab, but the shortenings aren’t. And he’ll probably be called Caesar a lot too.

Kanaloa · 24/09/2020 17:01

Probably Jules. In The Famous Five, they used to call Julian ‘Ju.’ Can’t think of any other nicknames unless his middle name began with the right letter, then he could be J.D, J.C, J.J etc. I always think if you don’t like any short forms of a name you shouldn’t use it though, because there’s always a chance they’ll be called it at some point.

propertealady · 24/09/2020 20:57

I know a Julius who goes by J/Jay sometimes. Has never been teased with Julie to my knowledge!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 25/09/2020 23:04

Probably Jules, which is fine. Unisex IMO. I knew a very cool snowboarder dude who went by Joolz

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 25/09/2020 23:08

I know a Julian who goes by Jules.

Jules or Ju. Or just insist on the full version!

calimommy · 26/09/2020 03:22

I wouldn't shorten it. I have an Alexander who I've always called his full name as I don't like the name Alex... sometimes we call him
Xander but it's not short as such haha
If you did shorten it I would use 'Jule'

NewIdeasToday · 26/09/2020 04:23

He’d inevitably be called ‘Caesar’.
How would you feel about that?

Lavendels · 26/09/2020 10:39

I know a Julius. He's either Julius or Jules. Lovely name!
