I know it's inflammatory bowel disease - should that put me off?

Also IB is Iris Bethan, both two syllables - does it work? Surname is 3 syllables.

I think it's fine. Nice names, btw.

AntiHop · 23/09/2020 22:46

I think it's fine. IBS would not be, as it's much more common illness.

daisypond · 23/09/2020 23:04

It’s fine. It’s nice.

Howmanysleepsnow · 23/09/2020 23:06

Hmm. Not for me, but I’m a nurse.

Howmanysleepsnow · 23/09/2020 23:06

Love Iris though.

Tillygetsit · 23/09/2020 23:07

I think they're very good together. I would do it.

Viletta · 24/09/2020 13:20

When ever you will use initials like this.. I think it's fine

Flappingflamingo · 24/09/2020 13:31

Iris bethan is beautiful, I love it

spiderlight · 24/09/2020 16:47

I'm an IBD sufferer and I think it's fine - it's a beautiful name pairing and a lot of people won't make the connection.

mama3bears · 24/09/2020 16:55

How often does anyone use their initials? I think it's fine and love the names too

theresaplaceforus · 25/09/2020 05:59

Never would have know, I think it’s fine

FippertyGibbett · 25/09/2020 06:05

I would make the connection.
But then there’s a car near me with the personal reg MSU and I just see mid-stream specimen of urine !!

Lockdownfatigue · 25/09/2020 07:35

I wouldn’t. I saw inflammatory bowel disease straight away.

Sunshine1235 · 25/09/2020 07:44

I wouldn’t notice, might if it was IBS but IBD doesn’t stick out to me

SacreBleeurgh · 25/09/2020 07:48

I also wouldn’t, sorry 😕. Can you add a second middle name?

zigaziga · 25/09/2020 09:24

That wouldn’t occur to me. It’s an acronym for Investment Banking Division in Finance. Not a big deal either way of course.

Lemonsyellow · 25/09/2020 10:03

It’s fine to me. IBS would be different. IBD I’ve never heard of.

Dollywilde · 25/09/2020 10:07

We went for two middle names in order to avoid ‘BO’ (B being our favourite girl’s name, O being a family name we really wanted to use) - so added another so it was BEO. Would that work? So IXBD or IBXD?

BackforGood · 25/09/2020 10:13

I opened the thread to find out what IBD is, so I very much doubt there will be hoards of dc at school that a) know her initials and b)know what IBD stands for who want to tease her for it.

(I have heard of IBS, but not IBD)

No isue with having 2 x 2 syllable names. The only time your full name(s) is/are used in life generally, is for your mother to tell you off. No-one else is going to go around calling her "Iris Bethan"

duckoutofwater · 25/09/2020 21:28

Thanks everyone, this is helpful. Sounds like it could trigger the association for some people, but maybe not the majority. We're keen to only have one middle name, as DS, DH and I all only have one. Thankfully still a couple of months to decide whether to go for it or not. Dilemma!
