Dodgy initials

Hi
I’m currently ttc dc2 and have only just realised that our surname initial is a bit difficult!

It’s C, so does this rule out:

WC (toilet)
RC (arsey)
MC (rapper person?)
AC (air con)
PC (police constable)

I suppose being on her also reminds me of DC & NC.

I think the two that would bother me are WC and RC and these are my top boy and top girl name. Do they matter?

It's good to be aware but you can overthink a thing.
WC - best avoided.
The rest - doubt if people would think like that

RuPaula · 19/09/2020 22:17

WC is my favourite, but I thought people might say that Sad

I also forgot VD, but I don’t think I have any ‘V’ names!

Just use a mn that doesn't start with a vowel.

PixellatedPixie · 19/09/2020 23:10

If you gave your child a middle name then that would maybe make it easier to avoid some of the unwanted acronyms?

RuPaula · 19/09/2020 23:17

There would be a middle name, but if you just initial things it’s usually just WC or whatever. Do people still use WC?

I don’t think I’ve ever used just my first and last initial together. If using initials it’s always with middle name(s) initial too.

Kids don’t use the term WC and it isn’t written on many public toilets so think even that one is fairly safe

Ginger1982 · 19/09/2020 23:24

I think you're overthinking this!

grey12 · 19/09/2020 23:25

That doesn't sound bad. Honestly

I do remember as a kid thinking that if I married some with surname starting with A would make my initials a bit rude.... it's an S, it's ok Wink

olderthanyouthink · 19/09/2020 23:30

I use 2 or 3 initials (maybe mostly 3) , DP uses 3 and for D who has a dreaded double barrelled surname we use 3 initials

Just pick a middle name that doesn't spell something (vowels!) or make a more dubious combo

Avery7 · 19/09/2020 23:35

Initials do matter. I know someone who's first and middle initials are M. R. so she's constantly mistaken for a man!

alexdgr8 · 19/09/2020 23:39

that reminds me of a legal person who was addressed in court as, miss der mann.
i always expected to see a male person stand up, mr man.

itsjakeandamy · 19/09/2020 23:41

I think most people use all their initials so I wouldn't be that bothered by any of those. I'd avoid anything rude but anything else isn't a massive deal.

whatausername · 20/09/2020 00:36

Over-thinking it :-)

mylittleavalon · 20/09/2020 07:24

I agree overthinking! I would use WC, in fact my maiden name began with a C and thinking about it we had a PC, MC, RC, and WC and I never gave it a second thought until I read this post 😂

RuPaula · 20/09/2020 18:00

I think I’m overthinking all of them except maybe WC. I think I really need to think about it (but it’s my only boys choice at the moment!)

FluffyEggsontoast · 20/09/2020 18:39

I think you're overthinking. WC is fine - give them a middle name

ZebraKid71 · 20/09/2020 21:32

You're over thinking it.

My initials were KFC til I got married! I think I'd actually have preferred WC 😂

Merename · 20/09/2020 21:35

I think WC would be fine, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

Merename · 20/09/2020 21:35

We are actually a C surname and would not have considered this at all!

Bringmewineandcake · 20/09/2020 21:36

My surname starts with a C and in the wider family there is OC, TC, DC, JC, AC, PC, FC, EC, RC, WC...and probably more.
It's really not an issue.

Sportsnight · 20/09/2020 21:59

Bc, cc, FC... you’d have to avoid loads if you start thinking that way!

micc · 20/09/2020 22:14

My baby due will be RC if it's a girl haha I think that's quite funny I didnt think of Arsy 🤣
I think your thinking too much about it I wouldn't worry that much. No one thinks about it. I went to school with someone who had the initials DBJ... double blow job!!! But I only found out because she told me, we had a giggle and she wasnt called BJ or anything!

micc · 20/09/2020 22:15

OH initials are MC too! Never even though about it :)

DappledThings · 21/09/2020 13:02

Massively overthinking it. I used to work in an office where we used our initials were used all the time in email subject headings and in database notes. There was a BJ. It was funny once for about 10 seconds then nobody ever noticed it again.

LittleTiger007 · 21/09/2020 14:20

Add a middle initial and use it on official letters etc. I have to do that because my first initial with my surname is silly.
