I like Luke, I like Jacob.

I don't like Luke Jacob. I don't know why, I just don't like saying it. Middle names don't really matter though. DS has two and the last time I said them aloud was probably over a year ago.

halftheworldaway92 · 11/09/2020 09:27

Thanks all. My 5 year old was desperate to call him Jacob, she loves the name, so I compromised and let her choose his middle name. :) If it was my choice I probably would do Luke Benjamin. Jacob is nice too, though!

It’s ok, inoffensive.

SBTLove · 11/09/2020 09:29

Both nice names but they don’t flow, I think it’s because Luke is a shortened name.
If you have to use them Id swap them around.

Whatsyourflava · 11/09/2020 10:09

I love the name Luke and haven't met anyone with this name for ages

I love the idea that your daughter has picked the middle name too. Jacob is one of my favourite names, despite popularity something always draws me back to it

Whatsyourflava · 11/09/2020 10:10

I personally wouldn't worry about the "flow" unless it's a hyphenated name, 99.99% of the time the names won't be said together anyway. It's a lovely story to tell your child that their sibling chose their middle name

Veterinari · 11/09/2020 10:14

Luke is a name in its own right, it isn't shortened
Cheetahfajita · 11/09/2020 10:16

It's ok, I think Luke sounds a bit odd in some accents like look but it's harmless.

TheChristmasPrincess · 11/09/2020 10:29

It’s an okay name.

I really like Luke, it was one of my favourite names as a teenager. But then everyone seemed to name their son Luke/Lucas in the 00s and I hated how popular it became. It’s literally number 100 in the Top 100 Boy names of 2019

Jacob is sweet enough, I’ve never personally warmed up to the name. Everyone seems to use it these days, so it’s pretty overused.

Overall, a nice enough name but maybe a little dull. The only concern I would have is the repeated heavy ‘k’ sound in both names, LuKe JaCob, which makes it sound very harsh and repetitive when said aloud.

Starburst8 · 11/09/2020 10:33

I agree with posters. Both names are nice on their own.
As poster said above the K sounds in both names together sounds really harsh.
I do like your original name Luke Benjamin 😊

user1493494961 · 11/09/2020 12:07

Prefer Jacob.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 12:55

Luke Benjamin is nicer. I don't think a child should be naming his or her new sibling.

Anappleaday1 · 11/09/2020 14:00

I really like both names, but I don't think they flow together well. Luke Benjamin is much nicer imo. I would also be concerned that 5 year olds change their minds quite quickly! But I personally wouldn't let a sibling choose a name, unless I loved 2 equally and they had the final say because I couldn't decide.

KittyMcKitty · 11/09/2020 14:04

Never ask name opinions on MN as you’ll always get loads of people tell you it’s dull, bland would be better if it was ....

The ONLY important thing is that you and your dp like it - you will have chosen the perfect name for your baby because you are his parents.

Enjoy the last week of your pregnancy and I hope Luke has a swift, safe entry into the world.

Grufallosfriends · 11/09/2020 14:20

This.

daisypond · 11/09/2020 14:25

I really like Luke. Jacob I’m not so keen on but it’s OK. I don’t think it flows well, though. Luke isn’t a shortened form. Luke is a biblical name. “Matthew, Mark, Luke and John....“

SunnySideDownBriefly · 11/09/2020 17:50

What about three names?

Luke Benjamin Jacob works!

Or Benjamin Jacob...but that gives you BJ...hmm.

Oneandabean · 11/09/2020 19:59

I like it and how lovely your other child got to choose. I don’t understand why people are so against it, as long as it’s a nice name what’s the issue

cptartapp · 11/09/2020 20:05

I have a Luke William. I like Jacob too but two biblical names together doesn't sit right.
I also have an Adam James.
Benjamin was another favourite.

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2020 01:02

Another vote for two middle names - Luke Benjamin Jacob.

Then you get your choice and your daughter has an input too.

MercyBodle · 12/09/2020 02:48

It's fine.

Jd1313 · 12/09/2020 03:24

Doesn't bother me it's a nice name, if you're insinuating I had to pick one over the other luke over Jacob hands down, I agree with above you could probably pick a middle that flows better but still a decent name

Torvean32 · 12/09/2020 03:28

I was hoing to ask if you had a thing for biblical names.
