Oliver and Alice

Thoughts on Oliver and Alice for twins?

These are our favourite names that we both love and keep coming back to but I’m SO conscious of how popular they both are! Would this put you off and does it make them boring and overused?

OP posts:

I love Alice, both sound great together as full names but not Ollie and Alice so much. Plus Oliver (Ollie) is really popular.

What about boys names that are not in top 10 so much, like Thomas, Benjamin or Joseph?

motherofdxughters · 03/09/2020 01:44

Love them.

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/09/2020 02:07

Yes- they are lovely
Yes- they are boring and overused
I'd definitely try to find different names.

Mothership4two · 03/09/2020 02:23

Lovely traditional names

Inkpaperstars · 03/09/2020 02:30

I don't like the name Oliver anyway, but if I did, yes the popularity would put me off.

You'll get sick of all their friends having the same names.

Torvean32 · 03/09/2020 02:32

Pick names you love whether they are popular or not. They will be your Alice and Oliver their namesakes don't matter.

kellybean18 · 03/09/2020 05:29

It’s a matter of taste, I personally do find them a bit bland BUT if you love them use them. Don’t let popularity put you off as I think when baby is here they will be your Alice/Oliver. It’d bother me far more if a close friend or family member had used the name rather than it just being a popular name x

AyeCorona1 · 03/09/2020 05:56

Alice? Sorry, but Chubby Brown ruined that name for me.

Kids in secondary school will be brutal when she gets there if you call her Alice. Sorry.

micc · 03/09/2020 08:01

They are lovely names there is no denying it. I personally wouldn't choose Oliver as it is sooo popular but.. my sister made me think about this the other day because I like Luna but hate how popular it is now, she said if you like a name you like a name! Who cares if other people are called it, its popular for a reason :)

Also confused about PP thinking the name Alice would get bullied?! She wouldn't haha

Astronica · 03/09/2020 08:03

Lovely names for twins. Traditional names can handle a lot of popularity. I wouldn't over think it.

itsjakeandamy · 03/09/2020 10:20

I never understand the comments about Alice. There are lots of them. I've never heard one get teased and I have teenage children. (They'd be more like to say "who the f is Chubby Brown?"!)
Alice and Oliver are lovely names.
Yes they're popular but it sounds as though you love them.
Honestly my children are late teens now. The most popular boys names their whole lives have been Jack and Oliver.
There were two Jacks in their primary school (in the same class 🙄) and one Oliver. There's one Jack in each year group of >200 in their secondary school and only two Olivers in the whole school. My daughter has 9 Alexanders in her year. My son has 4 Felixes in his.
You're increasing the odds of there being several children in their year with the same name but not guaranteeing it.

finallychangedmyusername · 03/09/2020 11:43

Allie and Ollie together are too twee, although both Alice and Oliver separately are great. Alice and Oscar, Allie and Ozzie might be better?

Consideredopinion · 03/09/2020 11:46

Alice? Sorry, but Chubby Brown ruined that name for me.

What in earth are you on about? I'm mid 50's and haven't got a clue so why teenagers would know whatever the connotation is baffles me

OP they're lovely names.

Flymetothestars · 03/09/2020 11:52

Obviously Oliver is hugely more common than Alice. About 3-4 times more Olivers than Alice's if you look at the statistics and the official numbers.
Both great names though And both are on downward trajectories so no where near as common as they were a few years ago if you focus on the numbers of babies with these names

Unseeliequeen · 03/09/2020 14:27

They're great names but the popularity would put me off. Particularly with Oliver because it's #1 and Olivia is #1 for girls.

With that said the thing about
name popularity is that even if you were to go out of your way to choose a really uncommon name a tonne of other mums will be doing the same and all of a sudden Edith and Salamander and Cabbagina are Top 50.

If you like the names go for them.

Pippilangstrumpfy · 03/09/2020 14:39

Alice is quite nice.

But Oliver is sooo overused and dull imo.

You think that teenagers in 2033 are going to use a song from 1976 to bully the several thousand Alices who are being born every year at the moment?
Oneandabean · 03/09/2020 20:23

@AyeCorona1 I don’t think teenagers will know anything about it. I’m 30 and I’ve never heard of chubby brown never mind the reference.

They’re both lovely names, yes Oliver is popular but personally only ever met 2, one my age and one 12

I’m an Alice, late 40s. I don’t think anyone has mentioned that song to me for at least 10 years!

Alice is one of my middle names, born mid-80s, I don’t even know this reference!
HashtagSoup · 03/09/2020 20:27

Anyway OP I love those names together! Go for it.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/09/2020 20:29

I think they are both great names.

EriAndo · 04/09/2020 01:05

I think they’re lovely classy names!

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2020 07:13

Potentially Ollie and Allie though.

Crylittlesister · 04/09/2020 07:19

Both nice names, but when I say them together, it is a very vowelly mouthful.
