Hi! Going to be TTC relatively soon and I wanted to hear opinions on names! We were thinking of "Bailey Avis" as a first and middle name. Bailey because we think it's a sweet name, and there's a content creator we like the spirit of with the same name, and Avis for my late grandmother.

Let me know if it's naff though or too old school, I think I fall prey to both of those things sometimes haha! xx

Avis? Like the car rental company?

Really dislike Bailey.

Britannah · 01/09/2020 22:05

I’m afraid I’m not a fan of Bailey at all. Just reminds me of the drink. Avis could work as a middle name especially as you have a nice family connection there. Assuming this is for. A girl? X

bambibandini · 01/09/2020 22:07

For a girl, still trying to think of names for a hypothetical boy (not sure why boys names are so much harder to conceptualise!).

And yep, Avis like the car rental company hahaha! (Though I think my Grandmother might have been the OG!) x

Sorry, don't like Bailey. It's a boy's name to me.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 01/09/2020 22:11

Not an fan of Bailey at all.

user1493494961 · 01/09/2020 22:12

Sounds like a company.

bambibandini · 01/09/2020 22:13

@Ginger1982 I don't think I've actually ever heard it as a boys name, but might just be my neck of the woods!

Does anyone have any preferable alternatives to consider?

I'm not keen on Bailey at all but Avis is lovely!

Babs709 · 01/09/2020 22:38

Avery
Riley
Sydney
Harper
Quinn
Robin
Wren
Piper
Hadley

danascully96 · 01/09/2020 22:41

I like Bailey, but when someone said it reminded them of "Old Bailey," that discouraged me lol. I like the abvoe recommendations of Avery, Hadley, Piper, etc. I would also recommend Sabrina, Rowan, or Anna :)

bambibandini · 01/09/2020 22:42

@Babs709 Love Sydney as a name! Avery Avis and Riley Avis I'm not too much of a fan of. Piper's pretty cute (though I've seen too much Orange is the New Black and so has my DH so possibly not lmao!)

OP posts:
bambibandini · 01/09/2020 22:43

@danascully96 Middle name is actually Rowan, as is my (less than brilliant) father's middle name hence I'm having it changed lmao!

It's not a bad suggestion though, I'd probably be considering it if it didn't come with history. Sabrina, I do like! (plus we have two cats very like Salem, if you catch the reference hahaha)

Unseeliequeen · 02/09/2020 13:53

I think Bailey is fine.

Suggestions:
Hailey
Autumn
Kaleigh
Bryony
Dawn
Rosa
Kimberley
Samantha
Allison
Bridget
Bryn
Florence
Georgia
Leonie

Bailey made me think of the Old Bailey before the drink.

change2birds · 02/09/2020 14:23

@Unseeliequeen Not in the same country as Old Bailey, but I definitely understand the connotation. Thanks for the names though, going on my list! x

bambibandini · 02/09/2020 14:48

**sorry, change2birds is also me, multiple names hahahaha! x

MikeUniformMike · 02/09/2020 14:53

I know boy Baileys but not girls.
Girl names with a similar vibe could include:
Shannon
Malin

Boy names:
Rockall
Fisher
FitzRoy
or Finisterre.
Middle name Hertz.

Mashingthecompost · 02/09/2020 14:56

I like it. It's different to a lot of other 'different' names I see repeated. If Avis is a family name that you want to honour then go with it, I think that's a great reason. Bailey for a girl is cute, too. My only reservation would be that there are a few dogs named Bailey around, but there are so many dogs about now that I think you'd struggle to find dogs that don't have kids' names if you looked hard enough.

Mashingthecompost · 02/09/2020 14:58

If you haven't been on it before, Nameberry is a fun website to input names and then see which suggestions come out. It's American so they tend to think certain names that have been around in the UK for a while are new and interesting but there are loads on there.

SendHelp30 · 02/09/2020 14:59

I know 3 children called Bailey and 2 dogs. All boys.
I’m not a fan of it for a girls name, sorry. There are so many beautiful girls names

change2birds · 02/09/2020 15:09

@Mashingthecompost I've actually not been on Nameberry, I'll have a look though, thanks for the suggestion! And I agree with the dog part but if we get rid of names that people use for their pets, then away goes Archie, Ollie, Lucy, Oscar, Toby, Bella etc etc. I think the middle name of Avis will probably stay, it's just coming up with good first names!

@SendHelp30 I mean fair enough tbh! I'm not too fussed about a gender-neutral name, might help with job interviews depressingly haha! Thanks for the opinion though :)

change2birds · 02/09/2020 15:10

**sorry, still me the OP! x

SendHelp30 · 03/09/2020 09:36

@change2birds true! Good luck with TTC!! With DS2 I didn’t come up with a name until he was 8 days old. Names are hard! I couldn’t figure out what suited him.

Lyricallie · 03/09/2020 09:42

I know a lot of people are saying they only know Bailey as a boy, I only know it as a girl. I think it's cute, quite American sounding for a girl (this might be because the bailey I knew was American lol).

I prefer Hayley, but alas my surname end in H so that's too much alliteration for any future child I have.

Astronica · 05/09/2020 13:26

I dislike Bailey. I'd find something else to go with Avis in the middle. Sabrina Avis makes a strong and distinctive name.
