Lyra Antarctica

Is what Ed Sheeran has called his first child.

I am not a fan of celeb names usually but I really like this. Lyra is unusual but not weird, easy to spell and would suit women of all ages.

Antarctica is indeed a bit unusual but I think you can get away with a more unusual choice for a middle name.

Great choice Ed and Cherry. Kardashians and rappers take note.

I was literally just talking about this to DH. I like it. As you say, Antarctica is unusual, but DD and I both have placename-middle names, so why not?

anorangeaday · 01/09/2020 16:55

I really love it

Meredusoleil · 01/09/2020 16:57

It's the rest of the name ixmbined that makes it a bit too ott imho...

"Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran"

Antarctica and Seaborn is just too descriptive together. Plus Lyra just reminds me of Lycra unfortunately 🤷‍♀️

SockYarn · 01/09/2020 17:06

Seaborn is her mother's surname no? All my kids have surnames as a middle name?

Lyra reminds me more of Lyric, which is apt given her dad's job.

My dog is called Lyra (All the pets I've named have star/constellation names). I like it.

RandomTree · 01/09/2020 18:26

I like Lyra a lot. Not sure about Antarctica.

zaphodbeeble · 01/09/2020 18:26

They were apparently in Antarctica 9 months ago !

elsa2424 · 01/09/2020 18:28

I love Lyra! It's nice and unusual. But I don't like Antartica. Glad it's the middle name...

ThatDamnScientist · 01/09/2020 18:29

Lyra is indeed a beautiful name (I love 'His Dark Materials').

Antarctica is a strange choice but each to their own.

ArdenBlue · 01/09/2020 18:30

Lyra is lovely
Of course they were going to have an out there middle name.

InfiniteSheldon · 01/09/2020 18:32

Lyra 'my mum and Dad had a shag here'. I can see why parents might like this but it's actually quite a horrible thing to do to a child.

LemonyFace · 01/09/2020 18:43

How do you pronounce pronounce Lyra? Lee-ra? Lie-ra? Lir-a?

CharismaticVic · 01/09/2020 18:54

Lyra is from His Dark Materials. I dont like the name because of the sadness the trilogy evokes and I think Antarctica is just weird.

nitgel · 01/09/2020 18:59

\link{\antarctica!}

Autumnsloth · 01/09/2020 19:00

I assumed that it was Antarctica for Lyra's (in the dark materials) obsession with Antarctica...... I see I was wrong! Like it a lot less now.

Magicbabywaves · 01/09/2020 19:03

Lyra, Layla, Lola, it’s the new Eve, Evie, Elsie/Maya, Mia,

chillied · 01/09/2020 19:09

I came on the thread to say no OP don't call your child this!

Never mind. Lyra is great. Antarctica omg

LottieDot · 01/09/2020 19:11

Love Lyra and I love His Dark Materials! Im actually disappointed as I feel like I couldn't use Lyra now 😆

JamieLeeCurtains · 01/09/2020 19:11

Each to their own I guess.

Is the baby a social influencer yet?

Wrong pole? (Unless I'm misremembering)
RunningFromInsanity · 01/09/2020 19:19

Lyra is pronounce lie-rah in the books.
I really like it.
And as for the middle name, no one actually uses it anyway.

Pipandmum · 01/09/2020 19:21

I know three young kids called Lyra. Must be getting up there in the charts.

SunbathingDragon · 01/09/2020 19:27

I would like Antarctica a lot more without knowing Ed and Cherry were there nine months ago!

Topseyt · 01/09/2020 19:30

Was she conceived in Antarctica?
