Thoughts on Benjamin? Ben as the nickname.

Really great classic name and very underused these days, about to leave the top 50! It's numbers have been falling each and every year for a long time.

Names like Benjamin or Peter are really great solid choices that aren't overly popular

Alderaan · 28/08/2020 19:37

My 8 month old DS is Benjamin Arthur

SelmaB · 28/08/2020 19:37

Love the name Benjamin! It's my BIL's name so couldn't ever use it but I think it's lovely.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 28/08/2020 19:38

Interesting that it's declining in popularity. I know loads! And it would have been our choice had we had a DS

MikeUniformMike · 28/08/2020 19:39

Classic. Really like it.

dementedma · 28/08/2020 19:39

It's DS middle name. Its lovely

cafedesreves · 28/08/2020 19:41

Smile nice to get positive feedback! It's actually number 32 on the ONS this year, up 2 from last year so perhaps having a resurgence?

I love it! DS (5) is Benjamin, we all call him Ben. We know one other Ben.

cptartapp · 28/08/2020 19:47

Love it. Almost named DS2 this. Sometimes wish we had.

Todaywewilldobetter · 28/08/2020 19:50

I don't think I've met one that I didn't like!
It's timeless, isn't it? Lovely.

gingertom11 · 28/08/2020 19:52

Biased because it's my lovely DH's name and DS's middle name. I think it's so lovely and I've never met a Ben I didn't like!

Roselilly36 · 28/08/2020 19:52

Lovely name, great choice.

Pugdoglife · 28/08/2020 19:52

I really like it, I would like to use it if (by some miracle) I ever had another boy.

DariaMorgendorffer · 28/08/2020 19:57

Love it

Flymetothestars · 28/08/2020 20:03

@cafedesreves that's interesting about this years' stats!

The drop in numbers has been pretty consistent so I highly doubt it'll go above number 30 for the foreseeable.
2019 figures not yet included though:

cafedesreves · 28/08/2020 20:12

@Flymetothestars that's so interesting. Also the numbers are falling even if the ranking isn't as people choose a greater variety of boys' names...

I like it. I probably slightly prefer Benedict, though.

emmathedilemma · 28/08/2020 20:59

Love it! Only know one little one who’s 6 and a couple who are much older.

MindyStClaire · 28/08/2020 21:00

Love it. Newborn DD would've been Benjamin known as Ben if she'd been a boy.

Firebird83 · 28/08/2020 21:11

I like Benjamin but I’m not keen on Ben, which seems an inevitable shortening.

newmum332 · 28/08/2020 22:09

Timeless

Tillygetsit · 28/08/2020 23:38

I love the sound of Benjamin. Very satisfying to say. Would have been a contender if it wasn't my cousin's name.

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2020 00:20

Lovely, classic name. It was popular 25 years ago but has gone out of fashion. Time to bring it back, I say!

ChimpyChops · 29/08/2020 00:24

DS (6) is Benjamin, he likes to be called Ben. Only Ben 😂

latticechaos · 29/08/2020 00:28

I think Benjamin is a really nice name, there's no criticism to make Smile
