I like it...its quite sweet

AristotleAteMyHamster · 28/08/2020 18:56

I like it

SBTLove · 28/08/2020 19:00

Seonaid; the Gaelic spelling is nice too.

AlternateName · 28/08/2020 19:04

Dear God, don't saddle a child with the Gaelic spelling! Especially if you don't actually live in Scotland. Shona is lovely though!

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 28/08/2020 19:05

Lovely name - nice and fresh, and would take her from baby to QC quite easily Grin

lakesidesummer · 28/08/2020 19:11

I think it is a classic name.

LizzieMacQueen · 28/08/2020 19:21

I like it. Similar vein to Lorna, Morag and Fiona.

Ishbel's what I would go for though.

florascotia2 · 28/08/2020 19:26

Seonaid is not pronounced like 'Shona'. Depending which Gaelic speaking region you are from, it's more like Shonn-idge.

Shona is more like Seonag (pronounced Show-nak or Show-nag), which is the Gaelic for Jane or Joan, but it has been used for a very long time as a name in it's own right, pronounced approx 'Show-nah'. As previous poster says, it's become a Scottish classic.

MikeUniformMike · 28/08/2020 19:40

I know a Shona but spelt Seonagh

MikeUniformMike · 28/08/2020 19:42

IIRC

purplecorkheart · 28/08/2020 19:45

I think it is a lovely name.

timetest · 28/08/2020 19:46

Pretty name.

SBTLove · 28/08/2020 19:46

@AlternateNamShe already has a child with a Gaelic name, as do I, I do live in Scotland and there are plenty of Scots/Irish around the world use Gaelic spellings.
Would you say that to someone with a Chinese or French spelling? bit rude

Firebird83 · 28/08/2020 21:12

It sounds a bit dated, but maybe it isn’t in Scotland.

Shayisgreat · 28/08/2020 21:14

Shona is a lovely name. I really like it.

midsomermurderess · 28/08/2020 21:55

I would say it is dated in Scotland, 1960s/1970s.

DrDetriment · 28/08/2020 22:15

It's sweet but a bit 80s. Makes me think that her friends would be Debbie and Sharon.

JanewaysBun · 28/08/2020 22:21

Lovely!
I know 1 Shona born 1986

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 28/08/2020 22:22

Love it. Also can be spelt Shonagh.

Rachellow · 28/08/2020 22:46

I think all the ones I know are mid to late 20s but it's nice. The only thing I would say is that my friend would get Shauna quite a lot despite spelling it Shona.

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2020 22:57

It's lovely.

EchidnasPhone · 28/08/2020 23:04

Makes me think of the 70’s/80’s. Not. Fan at all. What about Isla? Or Veda? Even Alba - if we’re talking Scotland...

Tillygetsit · 28/08/2020 23:26

I like it a lot.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/08/2020 23:37

It's pretty dated; the only ones I know are in their 50s.

Bubbletrouble43 · 28/08/2020 23:47

I worked with a lady who spelt it Sheona, not sure how authentic that spelling is but I think it's pretty.
