Jago and Xander are so lovely!
You may also like: Wilder, Roscoe, Nate, Flint, Roman, Ryder, Milo, Leon and Enzo.

Frazzlerock · 28/08/2020 07:35

I love Jago too @namenerd. I've loved it for years, but I don't like 'Jay' which I would imagine it would be naturally shortened to.

DP and I wondered about Spike last night...

Out of the suggestions so far I like Rafe but a friend has one and I'm not sure if that would be weird.

I also like Jude but another friend has a Jude. Kit is lovely but I once dated a Kit who was a bit of a nobhead so I feel like its ruined!

Rex is awesome, Not sure if I've mentioned it to DP before or not. I might suggest it today.

Rufus - quite nice but (and I don't say this often I promise) it's a bit of a dog name. One of the very few names I don't think works on a human.
Gabriel - love this name and love the option of nickname Gabe
Jago - love this name. You might also like Milo.
Guy - not keen but it's not bad
Rocco - no. Dislike
Xander - ok
Reuben - too common compared to some of your other choices
Seth - love this name and it's history
Rowan - prefer this name for a girl. Dislike Row and find too similar to another extremely popular name RoMan. Would avoid.
Theo - lovely name and sound. Very popular though.
Joss - I like it. A bit different.

Will have a think of some suggestions for you in a similar vein although you have a real mix here of some very trendy "having a moment", names like Reuben and Rowan/Roman plus some far more unusual names like Joss and Rufus.
I think Seth is a really great option. Not overly popular, never met one but a mainstream name these days. Also the number of Seths have been declining in popularity each and every year since 2014 so a much safer choice popularity wise.

sweetnosugar · 28/08/2020 09:41

Love Theo, it’s simple, easy to spell and pronounce. Just a nice sounding name imo.

Frazzlerock · 28/08/2020 09:45

Thank you @Flymetothestars great feedback!

I'm also steering mostly towards Seth. DP says I will tell him off when he calls him 'Seff' (SE London man!) I said it would help him to learn to say 'th' properly Grin

What I do like about Seth is that he was the 'appointed one' after Cain and Able (I'm NOT religious btw!), this is quite poignant for us as we lost four babies before this one.

I'm not really bothered about popularity. I have 2 boys with names consistently in the top 10. However, DP would rather have something slightly more unusual but fairly traditional and not too 'out there' at the same time.

Flymetothestars · 28/08/2020 09:58

Oh wow that meaning behind Seth is really beautiful. So sorry to hear about your 4 babies.
💔💔💔💔 💐 @Frazzlerock

I think the name Seth fits your DP popularity criteria perfectly. It's certainly more unusual than your other son's top 10 names and, as I said, it's numbers are now declining each and every year since 2014 so it's much less popular than it was 5 years ago and trend looks set to continue, so definitely not a name that's about to boom up the top 100 the way Ezra and Arlo did. Your DP might be encouraged to use the name by looking at the graph of the official numbers:

We had Rufus, Reuben and Rowan on our list. We also had the following

Tobias

Rafferty
Nicholas
Benedict
Zachary
Ivor
Nathaniel

Nathaniel
Rory
Jude
Roman
Silas
Ira

Shay

Frazzlerock · 28/08/2020 11:37

@17caterpillars1mouse I have Rafferty on my list too but took it off as DP thinks it is pretentious and imagines him in suit and cravat! I LOVE it and would love to use it if DP wasn't averse. Really like Raf or Rafi for short.

OP posts:
Sunflowers24 · 28/08/2020 12:45

imagines him in suit and cravat

What's wrong with that? Confused

Better than a tracksuit and chain necklaces...

Frazzlerock · 28/08/2020 12:55

@Sunflowers24 nothing as far as I'm concerned, I think he means a more eccentric style suit but I don't think there's anything wrong with being eccentric and would prefer it over a tracksuit and chain necklaces.
