I’ve always wanted to use the name Geoffrey in memory of my late grandad but think it’s a bit dated to use as a first name.
What do you think to Edward Geoffrey?
Our other option is Edward James but these names have no meaning to either of us.

It’s great.

I love Geoffrey, several of my parents friends had the name growing up and they all happened to be lovely men.

I think it works great as a middle name too.

Mish85 · 25/08/2020 11:27

That's a great name. I personally would use it as a first name if I was you. It obviously means a lot to you and I think it's a really refreshing name from others I've been hearing. It will probably come back into fashion eventually and I would hate for you to wish you had used it (if you like to stick with trends). Both lovely names though.

A perfect way to use Geoffrey. It would be refreshing compared to all the Theos and Oscars etc but I don't like it much as a first name. However, if you do very much like it there's no real reason not to use it as a first name. It's not like Barry or Stephen which feel very dated atm.

I think it's fine to use as a middle name. Lots of people have middle names after relatives that their parents probably wouldn't choose as a first name as they are now dated . My DS has John, which I don't actually like but I liked FIL.

My DH is Geoffrey, and he hates it Sad and unlike others I don't think its going to come back into fashion

My friend had a little boy called Geoffrey he's 5 and he's amazing and could never be called anything else. Go for it!

Whatsyourflava · 25/08/2020 11:49

Edward Geoffrey is a lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2020 11:53

It's great. I wouldn't want Geoffrey as a first name, but as a middle it's good. Edward Geoffrey sounds very dignified, it's a name that'll take him anywhere.

sweetnosugar · 25/08/2020 12:03

I think it’s a fab name! Go for it.

Oneandabean · 25/08/2020 14:49

My DD is in school with a Jeffrey. If you like it why not go for it as a first name. Could always have the nn frey instead of Geoff which sounds a bit more modern

Mj2196 · 25/08/2020 19:02

I refused it as a first name cause I dislike nickname Jeff , but We have a Jamie Jeffrey after dps father .
I think it sounds lovely with Edward

Thanks everyone - all positive so I think we’re decided!
