Brazil?

Thoughts on “Brazil” for a baby girl? No middle name, as Brazil in itself is kinda “out there” and uncommon, I think a middle name would be overkill. I hated it when my boyfriend mentioned it originally, but it’s actually grown on me. I know a ton of London’s, Asia’s, Ireland’s, etc.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered

Wow aren't you a charmer OP. Don't post asking for opinions if you don't want them.
That user was rude to me first. I asked for thoughts and opinions; NOT to be insulted.

Actually, I think this is a wind-up.

toomanyspiderplants · 22/08/2020 18:28

It will certainly be "character forming "

Me too

Whilst it's certainly a quirky name, have you checked it doesn't mean anything in Portuguese? The country Brazil was named after a tree. I can only imagine she's going to be called Braaaz - can you imagine what teenage boys are going to be like. My children don't have common names so I understand where you're coming from though.

ktp100 · 22/08/2020 18:40

Don't you love it when people come for an opinion then get defensive when they don't hear what they want to hear?!

I hear Brazil, I think Brazilian. That means some people are going to hear your child's name and think of bare vaginas, not the 'beautiful country'.

And no, my child doesn't have a 'boring' name, thanks.

daisypond · 22/08/2020 18:42

I would be be very wary of picking a name of a country to exoticise your child - if you or your OH don’t have links to the country yourself.

I have an uncommon name as well and I didn’t get teased for it at all... I think people put entirely too much stock into that notion.

I myself, can not fathom the thought of my child having a common name. I don’t want them to be in a classroom with 12 other kids who have the same name— individuality is important to me. I do think I prefer the spelling “Brasil”; even though it reminds me of “Basil” LOL! Thank you for your input

Feel compelled to say vulva, not vagina.

Monsterjam · 22/08/2020 18:46

It’ll be an easy name for school bullies to target

I see reading comprehension is an issue with a few of you...

I'd think you were very common to be honest and hadn't actually thought in a sensible, caring, grown up way about how having such a dreadful name would impact your child.

joystir59 · 22/08/2020 18:48

At least use the native spelling Brasil.

MileyWiley · 22/08/2020 18:50

Please don't. Poor child.

Ive found that most names on here are bashed if they aren’t “Elizabeth” “Anne” “Jessica” “Michael” “Andrew” and other names that have been done to death... That was very evident just browsing through the other threads. Quite sad.

I do have a few more if you guys care to give me your thoughts...

-Grey
-Greer
-Saffron

This is a wind up I reckon. If not I think Brasil Chardonnay goes well

RaspberryRuff · 22/08/2020 18:54

Do ye, aye?

Brazil is terrible. What a name to saddle a poor kid with. How about something like India, Paris, Sydney which are at least in relatively common usage if you must have a place name.

Monsterjam · 22/08/2020 18:55

Saffron is beautiful, Grey very common and I’m not sure how you would pronounce Greer (Gr-ear or Gre- er) and i think any names that are hard to pronounce must be a pain in the arse

nc600 · 22/08/2020 18:55

"I don’t want them to be in a classroom with 12 other kids who have the same name"

That never happens. Definitely won't with Brazil though Grin

sorryforswearing · 22/08/2020 18:56

Awful. Poor child.
