What do people think of this name? It’s one my DH suggested and I can agree with him that is seems great. It would be a girl Alexis, not a boy (I think this is a unisex name). Thanks Smile

I would think boy first, but ever since Dynasty people have also given it to girls. Are you a fan?

Christine1991 · 21/08/2020 20:41

@RoseAndRose no; I don’t know what dynasty is.

Love it!

RoseAndRose · 21/08/2020 22:08

Dynasty is one of the biggest US TV programmes of he 1980s, and it has just been reworked and re-released, so it's known to the audiences of today as well.

It was huge (overtook Dallas) and starred Joan Collins as Alexis

veryveryirrational · 21/08/2020 22:16

I know both male and female Alexis. I really do like it, even more on a girl I think. Great choice!

newmum332 · 21/08/2020 23:06

Love Alexis. I would think girl first if I heard it, I’ve not heard it for a boy before

I love Alexis and would have pushed harder for it for DD if it didn't sound awful with our surname!

TenThousandSpoons0 · 22/08/2020 22:02

Our baby will most likely be called Alexandra (nn Alex) so we have similar taste :)
I like Alexis and would definitely think girl. The only thing that puts me off it is it’s the name of a surgical retractor sometimes used at c section!! But I don’t think that’s something your everyday person would know/care about.
I’ve seen threads where people are worried about the AI Alexa and confusion there - I’m not fussed about that personally but it might be something to consider.

IdblowJonSnow · 22/08/2020 22:09

I like it! It's quite a blingy name to me (possibly cos I grew up on dynasty). Grin

Also there is,an alexis on Schitts Creek, more favourable associations.
I didn't know it can also be for boys.

winkygirl · 23/08/2020 06:24

My name is Alexis. I was born in the late 70s so I put up with the occasional Dynasty joke in the 80s. No one mentioned the connection from the 90s onwards though.
I’ve always gone by Alex but Lexie seems a more common shortening for Alexandra/Alexis/Alexia these days.

RaveOm · 23/08/2020 07:01

Apparently it’s actually a male name but is normally given to girls in the US. I would also think of dynasty/Joan Collins

Gin4thewin · 23/08/2020 07:09

I know a little girl called Alexis, but 99% of the time shes been called Lexi since she was born

MikeUniformMike · 23/08/2020 09:06

I know an Alexis, born pre-Dynasty, and I like the name.

houselikeashed · 23/08/2020 14:10

I only know of a boy Alexis.

FizzyGreenWater · 23/08/2020 22:49

Too Dynasty and now also too close to Alexa

Firebird83 · 23/08/2020 23:47

I much prefer it for a boy. It sounds a bit 90s American for a girl.

August20 · 24/08/2020 00:06

I would think boy unless you were American tbh.

I do quite like the sound of it but not as much as other Alex- names .

Jj2431 · 24/08/2020 02:48

don't like it
