Hey everyone,

Just wondered what peoples opinions were on this name?

Thinking of Ellen Rae but not 100% sure and cant pinpoint why.

Any opinions or suggestions welcome.

I love it but not with Rae. Or Mae.

Ellem Elizabeth or Ellen Patricia or Ellen Margaret
Ellen Penelope
Ellen Gabriela
Ellen Graciela
Ellen Daniela

Just my tase but it needs a LONG name after it not a short name.

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 14:03

I like it but not with Rae/May/May/Rose/Grace as a mn

If you want Ellen Rae go for Ellen Rachel. Rae (or Wray/Reay) is fine as a surname but tacky as a mn.

DramaAlpaca · 21/08/2020 15:03

Ellen is one of those names I have an irrational dislike for Confused To me it's got a dreary and dowdy feel to it, but that's not why I don't like it. There must be some long forgotten association with the name or something.

Anyway, my opinion isn't relevant. If you like it that's what's important. It's quite popular here in Ireland, I know loads of all ages.

I'm not mad on Rae as a middle, it's a bit of a 'filler' name. As a pp said, it needs a longer name after it.

Yiayoula · 21/08/2020 15:08

Elena Rae ? But prefer Elena Rose or Elena Grace, to be honest .

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2020 16:07

I prefer Elin. Ellen is ok.

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2020 16:07

Much prefer Elena.

daisypond · 21/08/2020 16:49

Ellen is nice. I like it. But Rae is horrid. Anything but that as a middle name.

finallychangedmyusername · 21/08/2020 16:53

Ellen is lovely, Rae I'm afraid I really dislike.

Suggestions based on Ellen Rae:
Ellen Rachel
Ellen Rebecca/Rebekah
Ellen Rosalie
Ellen Ruth

Ellen Claire
Ellen Maeve
Ellen Faith
Ellen Hope
Ellen Niamh

Or other names I like with Ellen:

Ellen Sophia
Ellen Amelia
Ellen Felicity (love this!)
Ellen Hermione

Whatsyourflava · 21/08/2020 16:54

I actually really like it!

missmouse101 · 21/08/2020 16:55

Ellen is quite dreary and Rae utterly dreadful imo, sorry!

formerbabe · 21/08/2020 19:11

Ellen is a frumpy name to me

Thefaceofboe · 21/08/2020 19:17

Ellen is very middle aged imo.

turquoise50 · 21/08/2020 19:18

Ellen was one of my top names if DS had been a girl. I prefer it to Ella or Ellie as it's more traditional, but she could still always go with Ellie as a nickname while keeping Ellen as the 'official' name.

Middle name if we'd used it would have been Ruth (a family name) or Tabitha.

VenusClapTrap · 21/08/2020 22:57

I love Ellen.

Angelina82 · 21/08/2020 23:06

I love the name Ellen. Not sure about the name Rae, but it’s a much better middle name than any of the other suggestions on here and I can’t think of anything better so....

AriesTheRam · 21/08/2020 23:17

DeGeneres

Newjez · 21/08/2020 23:19

Thought Ellen would be off the radar after Ellen degeneres.

Danniiaddy · 22/08/2020 01:06

My Nan is called Ellen and I don’t think it is a name that would suit a baby! I also have an old school friend who’s 38 called Ellen and it always seemed too old for her.

purpleme12 · 22/08/2020 01:17

I really like the name Ellen and quite like Rae too
I don't think it's dull or old at all. I think it's lovely and it pretty
Surprised by how many people don't like it

Enderman · 22/08/2020 17:59

I just dislike it, always have. It’s just weak and wet. Elena is much nicer.

isabellerossignol · 22/08/2020 18:06

I love it. I think it's great, in a world of Ellie and Ella, it's far nicer than both of them.

Iwasonceabrownie · 22/08/2020 18:34

What about Eleanor, it's a lovely name rather than Ellen.

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2020 23:25

There's a sweet but bossy Ellen in ds's class. I like it.. and her...but I'm in the disliking Rae camp. Something softer would sound better I think.

Jj2431 · 24/08/2020 03:03

Ellen is fine. Don't go spoiling it with Rae

EileenAlanna · 24/08/2020 04:08

I'm Ellen although I've always been called Eileen (it's an Irish thing) called after my late mother & my maternal great-grandmother.
