Eden for a boy?

Hi guys,

Just want some opinions on the name Eden for a baby boy. Do you think it sounds too girly? I'm aware it's quite commonly used for girls but I just love the name.

We're thinking
Eden Phoenix
Eden Hendrix
Eden Theodore

We also have Rome and Milo in the running for first names, with the same middle names.

Thoughts?

Any other suggestions on names (preferably ones that are quite unusual/uncommon) are welcomed :)

Used to know a little boy called Eden, I thought it was a lovely name (nice kid too). If anything I thought it suited him better than the girl I met later. Do make sure you're happy with the connotations though. The girl Eden I knew said the teacher sat her between an Adam and an Eve just for the fun of it!

LunaLoveFood · 21/08/2020 09:53

I know several Eden's, they are all girls, so I've only ever thought of it as a girls name (never met a boy Eden).

MintyMurray17 · 21/08/2020 09:56

I prefer Eden for a boy Smile

elfran · 21/08/2020 10:05

Eden is properly unisex in my eyes. I don't know any personally but have known of male and female ones. It's not personally my style (I prefer Milo from your list), but I wouldn't worry about it being girly. There are so many unisex names around these days, I think kids born now will have an entirely different outlook on what is for "boys" and "girls" (thankfully)!

tinselmom · 21/08/2020 10:12

I know a guy named Eden, so I don't find it girly at all.

russetred · 21/08/2020 10:27

I also know a teen boy Eden, have always thought it a lovely name.

Sunshines123 · 21/08/2020 10:51

I find it a little feminine and think written down people would assume you have a girl. I prefer Milo but I think this name is becoming quite popular if you are looking for something unusual.

Thisismytimetoshine · 21/08/2020 10:53

I've only ever heard of Eden for a boy, so that's lovely.
Don't like any of the second names though...

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 11:10

It's a downmarket unisex name.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 21/08/2020 11:18

Isn't the boys version Eiden?

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 11:31

Eiden is a different name - Irish, and not dissimilar to Aiden.

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2020 13:06

Far prefer it for a boy. Totally different vibe than for a girl. My son’s name is also ‘feminine’ but he’s the most boyish little boy there is and I’m certain a ‘girly’ name won’t do him any harmWink

QueSera · 21/08/2020 13:11

No.

ivfdreaming · 21/08/2020 13:15

No

All a bit try hard to be honest

Rome is awful

Oneandabean · 21/08/2020 15:25

I only think of it as a girls name. I can’t imagine a boy Eden. But if you do use it I really wouldn’t use unisex names as middle names. Both Phoenix and Hendrix can be unisex.

Whatsyourflava · 21/08/2020 17:18

Eden is lovely I think. I also really like Milo. Rome is often a nickname for Roman which is the fastest rising boy name, set to be top 30 soon on current trajectory, so probably too common for you as you say you want something a bit different. Surrounded by Romans round here.
How about

Tristan
Curtis
Laurence nn Laurie
Eli or Ellis instead of Eden
Barnaby
Cole
Marley
Kit
Otis or Otto as an alternative to Milo
Seth
Sidney or just Sid
Casper

Flappingflamingo · 21/08/2020 17:29

Eden is a girls name to me.
Your choice of names are not my taste at all about from Theodore which is cute, or milo at a push so milo Theodore. Definitely not Rome, that's not a name

SirVixofVixHall · 21/08/2020 17:31

I only know a male Eden, but it would work for either sex I think.

SendHelp30 · 21/08/2020 17:32

Not my taste at all but Eden is very common round here for a girl. As are Milo and Roman which I think people would assume is the full name of a child named Rome.

Zephan might be a name you like?

alexdgr8 · 21/08/2020 17:35

no.
not for a boy or girl.

theodore is the only worthy name there.
possibly milo, but sounds a bit comical.
the others, no way. equivalent of chardonnay etc

11Eleven · 21/08/2020 17:42

Thanks for all the contributions, some more helpful than others but thanks nevertheless 😄
fully aware that our choices won't be to everyone's taste, different generations/backgrounds etc but it's helpful to hear different opinions.

We have since moved away from Eden and added Jesse and River to the running.

We originally liked Roman but thought Rome based on the fact it's due to be extremely popular like you said 🤦🏽‍♀️

Loving those suggestions, will run by the DP. Thank you!

My sons best friend is called Eden. I like it

whatausername · 21/08/2020 18:39

Milo Hendrix is what I'd choose from your list. Eden feels very biblical and the story around it isn't nice at all. And I do see it as more of a female name than male.

whirlwindwallaby · 21/08/2020 18:45

Milo makes me think of chocolate and malt powder. I like Jesse.
