As a stand-alone name?
Can't use Abraham as it doesn't work with our surname. Love Abe though!

Pronounced Ayb? Or Ab be?

2weekstochooseaname · 19/08/2020 10:19

Pronounced Ayb to rhyme with babe

It would be unusual but nothing wrong with that :)

Whatsyourflava · 19/08/2020 10:25

I really like Abel nn Abe 🥰

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 19/08/2020 10:26

I love Abel but not Abe

Firebird83 · 19/08/2020 14:20

How about Abel or Abram instead?

MintyMurray17 · 19/08/2020 14:22

I know an Abe. Cute name. I also like Abram.

AllPlayedOut · 19/08/2020 14:52

It's awful.

yesicandoit · 19/08/2020 18:32

I like it, I like short names. I'm sure a lot will ask what it is twice to confirm ( I get that with my sons unusual short name)

Also like Ade !

Oneandabean · 19/08/2020 18:36

Just makes me think of a game called abes odyssey which had a weird alien looking guy.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 19/08/2020 18:46

I know a Gabriel nn Abe. It's a bit of a stretch, but works for him.

Cbeebiesrehab · 19/08/2020 19:31

Quite like it. I like short names for boys.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/08/2020 09:51

I love Abraham. I'm trying to think of surnames it wouldn't work with but I can't think of any apart from Lincoln...

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2020 18:11

It's a no from me. I don't like Ade either.

I don't understand why the OT names are so popular.

Random789 · 20/08/2020 18:16

It feels a bit tacky to start off with a shortened form of a name, without ever committing to the full name that it shortens. Also, Abe sounds very American. Makes me think of someone like Homer Simpson's dad -- trousers pulled up almost to the armpits, shambling and ridiculous and dull-witted.

alexdgr8 · 20/08/2020 19:07

no.
and abe is not an OT name.
find something else.
imagine saying it over the phone, how tedious a life-time of repeating, spelling, explaining,
find something else.

DramaAlpaca · 20/08/2020 19:09

My friend has one. He's just Abe, it's not short for anything. I quite like it.

Gin4thewin · 20/08/2020 19:09

I love the name Abel too

Moonshine160 · 20/08/2020 20:07

I just think of that weird PlayStation game called Abe’s Odyssey. Abe was a weird alien type character that farted

howlathebees · 20/08/2020 20:10

Love it! One of my DC’s middle names is Abraham but I love Abe

Wecandothis99 · 20/08/2020 20:12

I love Abe.

Wecandothis99 · 20/08/2020 20:14

Haha @alexgdr8 so much aggression! Biscuit

doasIsaynotasIdo · 20/08/2020 20:18

I have an Abe, it suits him really well and he seems very happy with his name too. Never been teased about it, and he doesn't get asked to spell it out.

Starburst8 · 20/08/2020 20:21

@oneandabean 😂 I actually thought of that, surprised someone else did too haha

On a serious note... Abe is not that unusual and it's not offensive. It's better than some names I've seen on other threads.
If you like it OP then go for it 😊

VenusClapTrap · 21/08/2020 22:47

Sounds like Ape. Lifetime of having to repeat himself and spell it out. It’s a strong no from me.
