Or not?

I think it might. It's one of those underused classics and they usually come around again. Anna is much more popular these days of course.

I think it's a beautiful, simple, elegant name actually. I prefer Anne to Ann, it looks more sophisticated somehow. Back in the day it was very popular as a middle name. It would be refreshing to see it used as a first name again.

Pemba · 19/08/2020 03:30

I think it probably will as it's a classic, the name of queens and saints, etc. I was born in the 60s and several school contemporaries were named Anne or Ann, (and half the class had it as a middle name!) I also knew several Annes of my mother's generation and a bit older, but from about 1970 it seemed to fall out of favour. It's probably due to come back soon, then!

I do prefer Anna though personally, it is one of the few names that is actually a timeless classic, ie from the name Anna you cannot tell the likely age of the person at all.

VenusClapTrap · 19/08/2020 07:21

I’ve always liked this name a lot. I hope it makes a comeback.

Whatsyourflava · 19/08/2020 07:54

Love the name and yes it will come back just not for a bit

LirBan · 19/08/2020 07:56

Yes.
I wouldnt pick Anne mind you but im done with frilly names. Love Jane, Mary, Ruth

Shesapunkpunk · 19/08/2020 07:59

I think so. I think Annie for a small child and Anne for an adult is just the most perfect example of a name that fits.

I think the Arabella love is just peak frill.. I’m so hoping from now we’re on the downward slope from frill to sweet and simple now.

RedToothBrush · 19/08/2020 18:12

It will come back but just not yet. Its one of those names that will return like Alfred, Dorothy, Edith etc have after around 100 years. 'Old man' names if you will.

However thats not due for a few years yet.

I think we are more likely to see longer variants like Arianne for the time being, as they are more on trend. And Anna is still currently more preferable to Ann or Anne.

It could well be more of a middle name choice too, replacing the ubiquitous Rose and Grace as 'link names'.

Oneandabean · 19/08/2020 18:15

I’m not a fan of Anne but I think Anna is lovely

BabyItsAWildWorld · 19/08/2020 18:18

Yes there will be a simple 'minimalist is cool' baby name trend in a few years.

Anne, Jane and Mary will be on trend.

And it will be Anne. Not Annie or Anna. They've been done, people will be wanting the cool simplicity of Anne.

I think it's lovely.

daisypond · 19/08/2020 18:19

Yes. But I do prefer Anna. And I quite like some of the foreign variants like Anya and Annette.

drumandthebass · 19/08/2020 18:21

I prefer Anna and quite like Annie.

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2020 18:43

I'm another one who likes short names.
I prefer Ann to Anne, and although I like Anna, I prefer Ann. Annie is nice.

Not keen on Ann/Anne as a middle name. It was always Ann/Anne or Jane.

LittleSwede · 19/08/2020 18:51

Without outing myself I must say it's a name close to my heart. I know/have known several Annas, my best friend I have known since we were tiny babies (thanks to our mums meetingin the maternity unit), my paternal grandma, my late DMIL and a neighbour I'm friends with. It's DD's second name too. I was apparently considered to be named Anna too after my grandmother. Lovely name.

Unseeliequeen · 19/08/2020 19:31

I think it will. I imagine names like Catherine, Bethany, Megan, Laura, Anne, Lauren, Natasha, John, Michael, Matthew, Peter will start to pick up in popularity.

foxtiger · 19/08/2020 21:42

I like both Anne and Anna very much - I don't think there's much to choose between them, unless it's because one sounds better with a specific middle name or surname. Don't like the Ann spelling as much as I think it looks a bit "colder" somehow.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 19/08/2020 22:37

Joan will also make a comeback.

toastmeahotcrossbun · 19/08/2020 23:10

It's a little bit boring. Anna is nice though.

Deardonkey · 19/08/2020 23:12

Anna is beautiful and Anne is ok.

bluesoup1 · 20/08/2020 00:26

I can see it. And I strongly associate it with Anne Hathaway now who i think is just beautiful inside and out.

I'm another who much prefers Anna. It's in my top 5 names.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/08/2020 07:13

I haven't met a baby Ann / Anne yet but I can easily see its imminent return as pps say with Jane Mary Jean Joan Edith and Ruth which are all on trend .

iffymiffy · 20/08/2020 07:26

I hope not. This is technically my name and I have hated it my whole life. It’s so, so boring, prim and plain. I could never understand why, in a world of beautiful and interesting and cool names, I was lumbered with a word that is about as interesting as ‘the’.

Exactly this.
iffymiffy · 20/08/2020 08:53

Also, people often forget whether or not you spell it with an e - I was forever having to correct people who wrote it as Ann or Anna.

I wouldn’t have minded if I hadn’t hated my name so bloody much.
