Hi
I love Cornish names and my last 2 children have them ( Kerenza and piran) so would like another for number 4
What do you think of Kitto?
I know there is a butchers by that name which does put me off slightly but its still stuck in my mind.....
Xx

It seems to me that it’s one of those names that might seem odd at first but which you could quickly become accustomed to. Has a ring to it.

Cindie943811A · 18/08/2020 22:13

What about Jago as an alternative if you decide not to go with Kitto?

Oneandabean · 18/08/2020 22:13

It’s nice, may get misheard for kitty or kiddo though

MrsEricBana · 18/08/2020 22:17

The butcher is spelt Kittow which does look more finished to me. Could it be misheard as Cato?

SnowdropFox · 18/08/2020 23:00

I quite like the sound of it. I know nothing about cornish names though, what does it mean?

AllPlayedOut · 18/08/2020 23:03

It sounds like a budget cat food.

DramaAlpaca · 18/08/2020 23:05

I love many Cornish names, but not that one.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/08/2020 23:05

Dupe of A Known Brand Cat Litter From A Budget Shop.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 18/08/2020 23:10

It’s it pronounced like key-toe or kit-oh or something else completely? Sorry if that’s a daft question.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 18/08/2020 23:19

Kitto is a Cornish surname not first name

I've heard of these Cornish first names for boys
Jowan
Joran
Jago
Rowan
Ruan

Onestepup · 19/08/2020 01:09

It's too much like a cat's nickname, sorry.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/08/2020 09:08

Just seen on another Cornish name thread : Jacca

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 09:32

It's fine OP.
I am not cornish.

The only thing I have against it is that Kit is very popular, and names ending with o are very popular.

At a guess, I would guess that it is a cornish form of Guy?
It sound very similar to the welsh Guto, which I like a lot.
There's a welsh journalist called Guto Hari and a welsh MP Guto Bebb, so it is not unusual.
It is pronounced Gitto, with the o sounding like the o in hot.

A clear no to spelling Kitto as Kittow. Just yuk.

HeyMonaMona · 21/08/2020 10:08

I love Kitto! I’ve never heard of Piran before - does that have an English equivalent?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/08/2020 10:18

Petroc?

Piran was an Irish / Cornish saint so don't know

Danniiaddy · 22/08/2020 01:50

Too feline, I don’t like boys being called Kit either unless it’s a nn for Christopher!
My cousins are called Jowan & Jago which are more commonly used Cornish names.
Also heard: Kenan, Ruan, Tristan & Merryn.

TreesoftheField · 22/08/2020 10:23

It's a surname not a first name.

Twelve8Ts · 22/08/2020 10:35

What difference does it make if it’s a surname? Plenty of names are surnames. Mason, Parker, Harrison, Jackson etc.

MikeUniformMike · 22/08/2020 10:36

Kit was nice when it was just occasionally used as a short name for Christopher, but now it is so popular it seems downmarket.
