Erin or Flo

Hi all,

I am expecting a little girl in just over a month (!) and my partner and I think we have got the name choices down to a choice of two.

Florence (Flo) - reflects Italian links for my partner.
Erin - poetic name for Ireland which is where my family are from.

We like them both equally and cant quite make that final decision! What are your thoughts on these? Thank you.

I like both. Florence is very popular at the moment.

For now, I'd wait until she is here. She might suit one more than the other.

emmathedilemma · 17/08/2020 17:43

Florence is lovely. I'm not a fan of Erin (possibly due to one I know!)

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 19:37

I'm not keen on Erin either, and it is very popular.
You could use Flora or Florentina as a longer form of Flo.

Flappingflamingo · 17/08/2020 19:40

Combine them
Florence Erin
Or
Erin Florence

Flappingflamingo · 17/08/2020 19:41

By the way I love both names and both combo's so I'm not much help sorry 😍🤣

Rugbycomet · 17/08/2020 19:42

How about Fleur or Fiore?

Glamazoni · 17/08/2020 19:44

Florence is lovely. I’ve heard Florrie used as a nickname too.

CatteStreet · 17/08/2020 19:47

I like Florence better of the two, but Erin Florence would work better than Florence Erin if you intended to use both.

BiscuitLovers098124 · 17/08/2020 19:51

I prefer Erin as Florence is so popular.

AnnaSW1 · 17/08/2020 19:59

I love Erin.

snowone · 17/08/2020 20:09

I had Erin on my list for DD1 but spelt Eryn. I also love Florence so actually not much help, sorry 🙈

ToyKitchenSink · 17/08/2020 20:15

Prefer Erin. Florence is ok but has beautiful connotations. Flo reminds me of Auntie Flo and so is a no from me.

midsomermurderess · 17/08/2020 20:16

Erin also a brand of soup in Ireland, one of the reasons I dislike it. I'd go for Florence.

Mollymarvelous70 · 17/08/2020 20:17

Both beautiful . Flo is my favourite

Firebird83 · 17/08/2020 20:19

I prefer Florence. I don’t think Erin is very pretty.

mistermagpie · 17/08/2020 20:22

I like Florence best. I actually loved Erin until I heard my husband say it in his broad Glaswegian accent and it just sounded like 'Ern'. It also gets a bit ruined in some other accents too, so Florence is the better choice IMO.

SnowdropFox · 17/08/2020 20:26

Much prefer Erin. The Auntie Flo reference ruins Flo for me. Do like Florence though!

Thistlegirl4 · 17/08/2020 22:09

I prefer Florence out of the two but maybe that's because I have never met a nice Erin, I know quite a few over the last few years and all horrible. Don't like Flo though, Florrie would be nicer.

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2020 22:27

Yes, I was going to say exactly this.
JemimaTiggywinkle · 18/08/2020 13:20

I really like Erin. I would choose it myself but it’s my niece’s name.

Flo- I have the Flo period tracker app

BecLJ · 18/08/2020 14:11

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments on these, some things to think about!

@JemimaTiggywinkle I also use that app but hadn't made that connection Grin
