Etta or Ada?!

Hi Everyone
Our baby girl is a week old and we are undecided on a name. We love both Etta and Ada but cannot decide between the two! We are however settled on the middle name Maeve. Hoping to get some opinions on which you lovely people prefer and why?

Etta Maeve
Or
Ada Maeve

Thanks so much

Etta!

Tillygetsit · 15/08/2020 23:07

Tough choice as I like both but I think Ada just pips it.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/08/2020 23:11

Both are nice but prefer Ada - DS would have been Ada if he'd been a girl.

eausolovely · 15/08/2020 23:26

Like them both but I always loved Ada and if I was having a girl she would probably be called that 💗

TildaTurnip · 15/08/2020 23:43

I Etta sandwich. I Etta banana.

I prefer Ada.

worstwitch18 · 15/08/2020 23:46

Really like Ada!

I've never seen Etta except on MN (and Etta James but her name was really Jamesetta Hawkins).

NatalieH2220 · 15/08/2020 23:53

Love Ada!

Buttercup54321 · 15/08/2020 23:55

Dont like either. Ava?

frustrationcentral · 16/08/2020 00:20

Etta is lovely!

SleepWellBeast · 16/08/2020 00:26

Ada by a mile (Etta seems to be getting popular near us and I don't get it at all). That said, Ada Maeve does not flow as well as Etta Maeve.

Onestepup · 16/08/2020 00:41

Ada is my preference. Etta sounds unfinished and harsh in comparison.

Mish85 · 16/08/2020 01:04

Etta Maeve. Stunning 🥰

blindmansbluff · 16/08/2020 01:20

Ada by a mile.

Etta is pronounced terribly in my accent and sounds really harsh.

halfpasteleven · 16/08/2020 05:25

Ada for me too! Congratulations on your baby girl Smile

PlanDeRaccordement · 16/08/2020 05:26

Etta was a boys name in Saxon times.
Ada is great, good role model too with Ada Lovelace who worked with Turing to invent the computer.

Zhampagne · 16/08/2020 07:54

Yes to Ada Lovelace being a great namesake but she didn’t work contemporaneously with Turing. He read her notes and she was influential on his thinking but he addressed her work in his own writing a full hundred years after her death.

NameChange30 · 16/08/2020 08:01

Ada. Love it.

villamariavintrapp · 16/08/2020 08:36

Ada by a million miles. Etta doesn't feel like a full name and has terrorist connotations.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 16/08/2020 09:05

ETA is spelt differently and has been dissolved. Fair enough if you don’t like the name but unless you are Spanish it’s not a reason not to use it.

daisypond · 16/08/2020 09:27

Ada is a proper name. Etta feels like a nickname, a half name. So. Ada.

sunyla · 16/08/2020 12:28

I love Ada.

PoodleMoth · 16/08/2020 15:37

I LOVE Etta! Ada is ok but Etta is so much nicer in my opinion

SaturdaySue · 16/08/2020 19:26

I love Etta, and prefer it.
I think Ada is too popular now because of pesky blinders, but it is a lovely name.

toastmeahotcrossbun · 16/08/2020 23:16

Ada

Heh1991 · 16/08/2020 23:31

Etta Maeve! Adore this combo I love Maeve too. Think both Etta and Ada are lovely but Etta is just that bit more unusual xx
