If you saw this babe what would you think?
Boy/girl?
Should just be spelt Ray?
Star Wars?
Nice traditional Spanish name?

Stupid autocorrect - name not 'babe'

Well it's Spanish for King, so I'd assume a boy with very proud parents.

GroupSects · 15/08/2020 14:21

I’d think girl and her parents are Star Wars fans.

My next baby which I’m not having, just theoretically will be a boy and his name will be Lando.

EarlGreyJenny · 15/08/2020 14:32

I'd think Star Wars. I like the sound but think I'd go with Ray.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/08/2020 14:33

I'd think Mysterio!

TheQueef · 15/08/2020 14:34

I know a Reya so I'd assume male equiv

idontknow54789 · 15/08/2020 15:39

Thanks all - I really like it as a name but I don't know Star Wars really and I'm not sure if they'll constantly get references to it.

I thought girl with parents that are into Star Wars

BabyDust13 · 15/08/2020 15:47

I think boy is Ray and I've seen it as Rae for a girl - it's a nice name either way

GlacindaTheTroll · 15/08/2020 15:47

Star Wars girl

The latest trilogy isn't as good as the previous two. But there are an awful lot of fans out there, since 1977, and they will make the association. In an anglophone country it will be the only association that is made.

The girls homophone version, without the Star Wars, is Rae and for boys Ray

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2020 15:48

I'd prefer Ray unless you are Spanish speaking.

FizzyGreenWater · 15/08/2020 16:17

Sorry, really don’t like it - as with Rae - naff, overused, also Star Wars!

Carouselfish · 15/08/2020 18:00

Lovely. I'd think girl.
Also like Rae and even Raye.

Ray I think of as boy.

jellyjellybaby · 15/08/2020 18:33

@GroupSects Am I wrong to assume you're an F1 fan? 👀

jellyjellybaby · 15/08/2020 18:39

I'm Spanish speaking so I'd definitely assume Rey is a boy and either his parents really wanted him to be named King in Spanish or it's short for something like Reymundo (even though we spell it Raymundo)

I don't think I'd instantly make the Rey association to Star Wars or think of it as a girl name just because the Spanish connotations are stronger in my case

donquixotedelamancha · 15/08/2020 18:41

I think you should go with Leia instead.

KingOfDogShite · 15/08/2020 18:45

I like it but I would think of Star Wars. Rey is so much nicer then Rae.

EThreepwood · 15/08/2020 18:47

Or Padme?

Have you seen this OP:

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 15/08/2020 18:52

I like it. Also Raine.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 15/08/2020 18:55

I'd also think girl, Star Wars.

soundsystem · 15/08/2020 19:02

On a boy, I'd assume Spanish heritage, probably short for Reynaldo. On a girl I'd think the parents were big Star Wars fans.

GroupSects · 15/08/2020 19:06

@jellyjellybaby DH is! So yes I do watch it and hearing it again makes me realise how much I love it but I first heard it cos of Lando Calrissian who’s real name is Landonis but that’s a bit much Grin

jellyjellybaby · 15/08/2020 19:23

@GroupSects I actually first heard it on F1, sorry OP for going a bit off topic. I genuinely love most names from F1, they're actually so cool it's like their parents knew they were going to be someone important in life 😅

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 15/08/2020 19:40

Daughter of Star Wars fans would be my assumption.

idontknow54789 · 15/08/2020 19:47

Thanks everyone. We're thinking Ray for a boy I just saw this spelling and really liked it but wanted to check what people would think - neither me or DH are Star Wars fans! I think we'll probably stick with Ray
