Hi!
I'm pregnant of a baby girl, (this is our first child) and we're searching for a pretty name for her.
Our favorite name is Alba. (It's a Spanish name) but this name is popular now and we are more into "rare" name. So we are looking for a double name with Alba. Rose-Alba is cute but everyone will call her Rose.
So we have :
Alba-Rose
Alba-Sofia
Alba-Luna
Alba-May?
We are not sure about these. But we also like a lot the name Bianca but that's the same "problem"
But if you have any ideas, suggestions,.. For a double name or not Please tell us! We are a bit lost and that's pretty hard! Confused

I personally wouldn’t opt for May or Rose. I think they’re just too popular these days either as a middle name or a hyphenated first name.

I think a longer middle name would go well.
Alba Isabella
Alba Alexandra
Alba Maria

Pressed post too soon!
Alba Francesca
Alba Gloria
Alba Cecily
Alba Josephine
Alba Vivienne

I am not a fan of a hyphenated name at all. Alba is not 'popular'. It's marginally more popular than it was ten years ago, but it's hardly common. In 2018, 0.04% of babies were called Alba. That is approximately one in 2500. Chances are, your child will never meet another Alba.

I knew a Maria-Alba who went by Alba. Think it’s fairly common in Spain but I still think it’s very pretty.

Whatsyourflava · 13/08/2020 11:37

Don't like hyphenating names at all. It ruins both names in my opinion.

123Dancewithme · 13/08/2020 12:25

Please don’t hyphenate it.

juliia · 13/08/2020 12:30

A lot of people told us the same "hyphenating names ruins both names" and we understand that but we don't really know. Alba Maria is super cute, we'll see. On our list we have:
Alba
Rosalba (better than Rose-Alba)
Alba Maria
Alba Sofia
Alba Carmen (but people told us that it is "too much)
Eva/Soleva
Blanca-Estela (common in Spain but I don't know in another country how it Will be)
My gf like Pia and Marcela a lot

Another idea or suggestions about a "rare name"? A Spanish name is not a criteria we juste like these one but we also like old name, and French one,.. like Colette (but my wife don't like Colette lmao)

Alba is a lovely name. Don't ruin it.

emmathedilemma · 13/08/2020 13:18

what @AhNowTed said!!
I think it's a lovely name, also the Gaelic name for Scotland.
I definitely wouldn't hypenate it and i wouldn't use something that also ends in "a". What about Alba Marie rather than Maria?

elfran · 13/08/2020 13:55

Alba is beautiful on its own, I wouldn't hyphenate but add a lovely middle name.

Personally I like a non -a ending name in the middle slot to avoid the rhymey/sing-songy feeling. I love the feel of Alba Inez, for example.

PoodleMoth · 13/08/2020 15:41

Alba Maria is lovely, hyphenating is seen as a very 'lower class' thing to do. If you love the hyphen do it but I have to admit it looks better without!

whatausername · 13/08/2020 19:47

All of the names you've attached to Alba in your OP are super popular. They're popular because they sound nice. There is no real need for a child to have a "rare" name unless you come across a name that you happens to be both rare and your favourite. I'd go by sound, perhaps ease of spelling, how well it travels and - to some extent - meaning before I worried about popularity.

daisypond · 13/08/2020 21:12

Hyphenated/double names are quite normal in Spain and don’t have the connotations that they may do in parts of the UK. I know several Spanish women with names like that. I like them.

bridgetreilly · 13/08/2020 21:43

Just to say, if you're Spanish and in Spain, the advice of a lot of (mostly) UK women on the internet is probably not all that relevant.

RollercoasterRaver · 13/08/2020 21:51

Avoid 'Alba Rose' as that's a jewellery company!
