Amos?

I have 2 names I like, Saul and Amos. I thought I had settled on Saul but I do love Amos. What’s everyone’s opinions? How would you pronounce it and do you like it with the names Jude, Levi and Ezra

I'd pronounce it A-mos with the A as in Ay, rather than Am-os.
It's not a name I'd choose but if those are your other 3 kids names i think it works quite well.

Happymum12345 · 12/08/2020 16:40

Love the name. Very strong biblical names. I would pronounce ay mos

MarshaBradyo · 12/08/2020 16:42

It goes well and prefer it to Saul

Pronounce it A-mos with A rhyming with hay

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 12/08/2020 16:42

I love Amos (Ay-mos)

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2020 16:46

I like Amos much better than Saul. Ay-mos is the standard British pronunciation.

Rudyruby · 12/08/2020 16:53

Love. Perfect with the other names (which are also fab).

Cindie943811A · 12/08/2020 17:02

Great name. Not keen on Saul.

howlathebees · 12/08/2020 17:16

Thank you! It’s definitely my favourite out of that and Saul, but I worry that there’s 3 2 syllable names and 1 on his own with 1 syllable. But that might be my pregnancy hormones making me overreactGrin

Amos is cute!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 12/08/2020 18:22

I really like Amos pronounced Ay-mos

iwannalendyoumycoat · 12/08/2020 18:29

I like Amos. How about Seth if you're keener on a one syllable name?

howlathebees · 12/08/2020 18:32

I do really like Seth too. But worry about the ‘th’ pronunciation as he’ll be ‘sef’ here

I like Amos! Reminds me of Amos Diggery in Harry Potter Grin

eandz13 · 12/08/2020 18:48

Absolutely love Amos.

123Dancewithme · 12/08/2020 18:48

I prefer Saul but I really like Amos too.

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2020 18:49

I worry that there’s 3 2 syllable names and 1 on his own with 1 syllable. But that might be my pregnancy hormones making me overreact

That is a bonkers thing to worry about. Put it down to hormones and move on. Pick the name you like.

howlathebees · 12/08/2020 18:57

I think we will go with Amos! Thank you all :)

I was Team Saul strongly (it's still my fave) but honestly, all your names are great OP.

I worry I encouraged your syllable worry by bringing it up on your other thread - call it OCD from one random internet lady and forget it! Amos is great.

Oneandabean · 13/08/2020 23:09

It’s unusual, the only time I’ve heard it is in Harry Potter, Amos Diggory. You might get that association a lot.

howlathebees · 14/08/2020 00:21

@elfran don’t worry! I was already worried about the 1 syllable. I’ve had a think about it and I decided I’d like 1 syllable so we’ve gone with Saul Amos

Muppetry76 · 14/08/2020 01:44

Amos is an Old codger from Emmerdale, would raise lots of eyebrows in my part of the world (Yorkshire). Your other names are modern classics, I can't get past giant sideburns, flat caps and a pipe smoking poacher propping up the bar in the Woolpack

howlathebees · 14/08/2020 02:04

Well of anything was making me sway back to Amos, you’ve stopped that @Muppetry76😂.

peachpuppy · 14/08/2020 02:51

Any time I hear the name "Amos" I just get the song "Funny Honey" from Chicago playing in my head. Cool name, but maybe not the best association ... Grin Flowers

howlathebees · 14/08/2020 03:11

@peachpuppy I do love Amos from Chicago though!😂

peachpuppy · 14/08/2020 03:25

@howlathebees cellophane, mr cellophaaaaane
My associations are Amos from Chicago, and Saul from Breaking Bad. So if you name your baby either, keep him away from leggy blondes and meth makers respectively Grin Halo
