Opinions on either of these versions? It just popped into my head in a magical way like my daughter's middle name did, after I've been struggling with girl's names for weeks.

I like it OP! Probably go for Lilian rather than Lillian personally.

Not keen sorry. Lillian seems like a less pretty version of Lily, but still Lil, which I don't like.

june2007 · 12/08/2020 00:03

I like it. My mum (who has it as her first name.) Does not. She uses her middle name for all but official business.

ILoveStickers · 12/08/2020 06:16

Nice. I think the spelling is a free choice on this one. I think I prefer the look of Lillian.

kellybean18 · 12/08/2020 07:05

I love this name so much but my DH said no :( I love that it can be Lil or Lily.

I’d go for the ‘Lilian’ spelling too

MsSweary · 12/08/2020 07:11

I believe Lillian is the correct spelling and when I was a child it was pronounced as in Gillian.

vampirethriller · 12/08/2020 07:45

I love Lilian.

daisypond · 12/08/2020 08:03

I like it a lot. Lilian is what I would go for.

Orphlids · 12/08/2020 09:05

I love it. I like the definite ending provided by the n. Would have considered it for our DD, but it clashes with the surname.

Kokeshi123 · 12/08/2020 12:58

It's not awful but not my favorite. It sounds like an attempt to put a different spin on Lily (a lovely name but a bit over used). It also sounds very middle-aged and makes me think of an elderly auntie.

Cindie943811A · 12/08/2020 15:01

I think the single l spelling is more pleasing on the eye and the pronunciation is not affected so I don’t understand @MsSweary’s comment.
Name like many others is making a come back.
Another variation is Lilias

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/08/2020 15:17

Love it but would avoid myself as a first name as I'm not keen on Lily. It's actually dd2s middle name, spelt Lillian

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2020 15:23

Lilian just looks wrong.
It is better than Lilia (Tesco tampons) and Liliana, both of which smack of 'someone else used Lily so we can't'.

It's still a granny name.

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2020 19:03

Lilian, not Lillian. Just as it's Lily, not Lilly.

FatBottomedGurl · 12/08/2020 19:16

It remind me of Lilith, which I prefer, actually.

mylittleavalon · 12/08/2020 20:01

My grandmother's name was Lilian and I always thought it a bit strange it wasn't Lillian so I would go with Lillian personally, but either way I love the name xx

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2020 22:42

It's lovely. I prefer the Lilian spelling. I adore Lily too.
